What hardware jobs are there in the IT industry?
Hardware location
1. Hardware development engineer
Hardware development engineers are usually responsible for the design and development of hardware products (usually a part of hardware equipment). Candidates are generally required to be familiar with the design of digital and analog circuits and the use of related design tools, the development of single-chip microcomputer and programmable logic device, assembly language and various hardware interfaces. Sometimes candidates are required to be familiar with the development of C language, the application and development of mobile devices, and the principle and development of embedded systems. This position usually requires a bachelor's degree and at least 2 years relevant work experience. In addition, there is an interesting phenomenon about professional requirements: many positions are generally reluctant to accept computer talents, but have a soft spot for automation, electronics and communication talents.
Job search suggestion: This position can be said to be a "legendary position". Hardware development engineer should be a kind of high-level knowledge talent with great demand, but in fact, the demand in China is not so high, which is related to the current domestic hardware technology level. Computer equipment components (such as chips) are mainly imported, so at present our hardware development mainly focuses on the development of computer peripheral hardware such as automation equipment and communication equipment. The research and development talents of single chip microcomputer and control panel in automation equipment, and the hardware development talents of mobile phone and PDA function in communication equipment have become the mainstream of hardware development engineer recruitment.
2. Hardware maintenance engineer
This position, also called "internal technical support", is generally responsible for providing routine maintenance, new equipment configuration and implementation, fault handling and maintenance for the hardware equipment of our unit. Hardware maintenance engineers are also divided into hardware maintenance engineers in IT industry and hardware maintenance engineers in non-IT industry according to different types of employment units. Hardware maintenance engineers in IT industry have high technical requirements. They are usually required to be proficient not only in the maintenance of office computers, but also in the configuration and maintenance of servers and network devices. Sometimes, depending on the nature of a specific device, there will be additional requirements, such as installing and configuring special software for the server/client. Generally, more than 2 years working experience is required. Hardware maintenance engineers in non-IT industries have lower requirements. They are generally required to carry out routine maintenance of office automation equipment (mainly PC computers and small local area networks), and fresh graduates majoring in computer science are qualified for this position.
Job suggestion: This position belongs to technical logistics. In addition, we need to face the angry faces and anxious urging of colleagues who can't work because of equipment failure. At the same time, because it is maintenance work rather than creative work, the staff's enthusiasm is often not high, so the job mobility is great. But the starting point of this position is low, especially in the non-industrial T industry. In recent years, with the proliferation of small and medium-sized enterprises in various places, the demand for hardware maintenance engineers in non-IT industries is also soaring, which will provide employment opportunities for more recent graduates majoring in computer science in the future.
3. Network Engineer
This position is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of office/commercial network architecture, which is due to the increasingly high requirements of enterprises for office automation and network collaborative work. The technical requirements for a network engineer mainly include: being familiar with the structure and performance indicators of various servers, routing and switching equipment, being able to design systems independently, and being proficient in the operation and configuration of operating systems (generally Windows or Linux) used in the network; Familiar with the configuration method of routing switching equipment, and sometimes master TCP/IP protocol. Generally speaking, the post of network engineer requires a bachelor degree or above in computer or communication, and has 2 years of relevant work experience. If there is relevant certification, fresh graduates can also engage in this kind of work, but generally it is an auxiliary position.
Job hunting suggestions for hardware positions
Job search suggestion: Most of the high-paying jobs in hardware positions are concentrated here. This kind of work generally corresponds to Cisco Network Engineer Certification (CCNA, CCNP, CCIL). If you are certified and have several years of work experience, it is easy to enter the corresponding post. At present, network engineers are scarce, and companies with large office networks (especially across regions) are often equipped with special network operation departments, even large companies in non-industrial T industries. In general, the salary and promotion opportunities of network engineers in IT industry are relatively high. In addition, this profession is also very helpful to practitioners. After working experience and business channels have accumulated to a certain extent, it is not difficult to establish a network construction and maintenance company.
Although the demand for hardware talents is not as hot as that of software, there is no such great employment pressure and the treatment will not be worse than that of software industry. Another most important point is that compared with the software industry, workers in the hardware industry have far fewer days of unplanned overtime.
