The school originated from the Water Conservancy School of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Central People's Government founded in Beijing in 1951. In 1954, it was renamed the Beijing Water Conservancy School of the Ministry of Water Resources. In 1958, Beijing Hydropower School and Beijing Hydropower Correspondence College were merged to form Beijing College of Water Resources and Hydropower.
