Functions of Zhang Tang Railway

The newly-built Zhangtang Railway is a new transportation channel in the "Three Wests" coal transportation route to the north, which mainly undertakes the energy output in northern Shanxi, western Mongolia and northwestern Shaanxi. The total length of the line is 528 kilometers, with 8 stations 18, and the designed running speed is 160 kilometers per hour. Its completion will not only effectively make up for the shortage of coal transportation capacity in Beidao, but also open up a new channel for large-capacity railway collection and distribution for Caofeidian Port, and will also connect with Xicheng Railway under construction in Chengde area to form a new channel for large-capacity coal transportation in eastern Inner Mongolia, thus ensuring the coal transportation of China's main coal production bases and the rapid development of China's national economy.

Zhang-Tang Railway will also consider passenger transport. After completion, the railway transportation distance from Chengde to Tangshan will be shortened to 186 km, and the travel time of railway passengers will be shortened to 1.5 hours.
