In order to achieve the effect of enrollment, the school asked me to give a speech at my alma mater and talk about my learning experience. How to prepare a speech? Please kneel down! ! ! !
Today, I am fortunate to return to my alma mater again and share my fond memories of middle school with my classmates, as well as my thoughts for many years after graduation. How I wish I could find someone in this crowded playground and find my naive self. I wonder what I should tell him if I can hear this.
I 1997 was admitted to the junior middle school of Chongqing Middle School. At that time, the antique old school gate of Chongqing Middle School, in our view, led to success and a promising future. For the first time in our lives, we had morning classes, the first morning exercise at 6: 30, and the first evening self-study. Three days later, because we got up late, I became the first late student in Chongqing Middle School 1997. But after all the new excitement disappeared, I met my first waterloo in middle school. Because of my ignorance and numbness, I actually ranked 152 in the whole grade. At that time, there were only four classes and more than 200 students in one grade. My grades are equivalent to 750 of my classmates' grades now. This is a blow to me, who still thinks I am an excellent student. After the great shock, I gradually woke up and thought for the first time in my life. For four days in a row, I locked myself in my room, staring at my report card and reflecting on my ideological mistakes except school. In my opinion, in Chongqing middle school, no one is necessarily excellent, and no one can win without hard work. In this campus where the best students in the city are concentrated, it can be said that there are many talents. So I began to learn how to get rid of impetuousness, how to boost morale, and how to take every step steadily. By the end of the semester, I will be over seventy years old. In the second semester, the ranking continued to rise to the top 20 of the grade, followed by the top 10, the top 5, and finally the top 3, and won the second place in the grade. Of course, as I said, there will always be talents in Chongqing middle school. Students who win the first place will get full marks in six subjects, and Chinese and politics, which are not full marks, are far ahead. I can only sigh that a moment that can make us stop and be proud may not exist in itself.
However, what makes me most happy is that in the busy study of Chongqing middle school, I still seized the opportunity and realized the balanced development of all aspects. Participated in school bands and theatrical performances, talked about cross talk for two years, and acted in sketches for two years. I was also the minister of literature and art of the school, and was later rated as an outstanding student cadre. I also won the prize in the speech on September 29th and the composition contest on New Year's Day. I won the first prize in the provincial physics competition and the third prize in the national biology league; I set up a biological interest group and my own laboratory; I participated in the Chengdu middle school students' webpage making competition and won the prize. I participated in Netease Flash Animation Competition and won the sixth place in China. I also made good use of the months after graduation to enrich myself, and passed the Cisco Network Engineer before entering the university. All these have become my valuable gains in the quality training of middle schools in Chongqing.
In 2003, I graduated from Chongqing Middle School and was admitted to Guangzhou Jinan University with the first batch of results. I began to study food science at the International College of Jinan University. University is a brand-new platform, and a good platform can fully reflect our abilities and help us find the most valuable sense of accomplishment and self-confidence. So, outside of school, I gave full play to the computer interest cultivated in high school. I soon became the captain of Jinan University's voluntary computer maintenance team, leading 50 students to be responsible for the maintenance of more than 3,000 computers in the whole school. At the end of my freshman year, I did three things that made me very proud. First, I won a scholarship because of my excellent grades. Second, I set up a web production studio as a founder and took the first step in starting a business; Third, I passed Band 6.
But just when I thought everything was developing step by step, one thing touched me and completely changed the track of my life. All this stems from a job fair in my sophomore year. It was in the hot summer in Guangzhou, and in the main stadium of the school, fresh graduates from major universities in Guangzhou participated in the campus recruitment of thousands of enterprises and institutions. When I arrived at the venue with the mentality of "seeing the world", I was deeply shocked. There are more than100000 people. Boundless. The word "sea of people" may not be enough to describe such a huge population density, and perhaps the word "Pacific Ocean" can only be used. These people all have the same name, college students, and no one cares about their names and origins. Most of them eventually became a number in the unemployment report of the newspaper.
I was deeply moved. I think if we want to avoid low-end competition and give full play to our advantages, we need to find a better platform, broaden our horizons, go out and see how big the world is. So I began to prepare for studying in the United States for two and a half years. American application is a systematic project, which requires not only excellent academic performance, but also English ability and social activities. Research activities and other aspects develop in a balanced and coordinated manner. Especially at the beginning, because of the gap in language ability, TOEFL and GRE failed to achieve excellent results. At this time, my junior high school experience gave me great inspiration. I resolutely decided to give up my own studio, quit my job as a maintenance team and student cadre, quit my impetuous mood, and make clear my goals and beliefs. I went all out to prepare for the exam. Impetuousness is the biggest enemy to do a good job, but we can really eliminate interference. When we focus on one thing and nothing else, the effect is often unexpectedly good. By the time I was a junior, I had finished all the exams. Of course, going abroad is a systematic project, which requires comprehensive consideration. In addition to ensuring excellent grades every year, I won the first-class scholarship, and also teamed up to participate in the world's largest college student entrepreneurship competition "Saifu". In 2005 and 2006, it beat Tsinghua Peking University and other rivals in succession and won the second and fourth place in Greater China. In 2007, two papers of academic research projects I participated in were published in domestic core journals, and I was awarded the status of second author. At the same time, the work of contacting schools has also started in full swing. Because of my excellent background and meticulous contact work, I was invited to the United States for an interview by the University of Illinois, which ranks second in food science. Because of my excellent expression ability, I left a deep impression on the teacher who interviewed me. The vice president of the school's agricultural college even wrote me a letter of recommendation in person. In mid-2007, three of the four universities I applied for accepted me, and two of them, the University of Illinois and Pennsylvania State University, offered full scholarships. Among them, the University of Illinois even allowed me to enter directly as a doctoral student, becoming the only graduate student who was directly admitted to the doctoral program without a master's degree. I have achieved very good results in job hunting and college study. After graduating as an outstanding graduate, I chose to study at the University of Illinois.
Like every change in entering a higher school, the opportunities and challenges brought by the United States are even more dazzling. This change is more thorough and extensive. Many things are similar. If we can do one thing well, we often draw inferences from others. Just like the challenge and solution process from primary school to junior high school, the core of adaptation is to get rid of impetuousness, think hard and solve problems calmly. So far, my study course has been completed. Entering the graduation research project stage, I also won full scholarships and outstanding student awards from three universities in 2007, 2008 and 2009 respectively. In 20 10, I beat 60 students from excellent universities such as MIT, Harvard and University of Chicago, and was hired by General Mills, the fifth largest food manufacturer in the world. Became the first intern and the only foreign intern in Bell Research Center of General Mills in 1 1. Therefore, he was even personally received by Mr. Mark belton, vice president of General Mills. General Mills is a giant in the world food industry, and the famous Haagen-Dazs ice cream and pizza used by Pizza Hut are produced for this company. So far, I have signed the second internship contract with General Mills.
Today, I can't say that I have succeeded, but I am proud to say that I have been moving in the direction I pursue. Doing a good job often requires a lot of long-term accumulation, and the origin of this accumulation is the middle school years.
Back to my topic, if I could see me here eight years ago, I would tell myself:
The problems we encounter are not terrible. The sooner we encounter problems, the sooner we have a chance to find and solve them. But when we change the environment, we often have some unpleasant things. In fact, every step of life is like this. Only by constantly trying to solve it can you finally get used to it.
We should have a clear goal and a long-term vision. The world is so big that it is difficult for us to see everything now. Only by preparing for all the possibilities in the future can we seize the opportunity when it comes.
We should have a reasonable plan and do the most effective things at the most important time, and our young people, the most important job at this stage, is to constantly strive to get a better platform. Life is long, the key is a few steps. Students are faced with the first chance to change their destiny in life, perhaps the biggest opportunity, that is, the college entrance examination. Only by passing the college entrance examination can we get a platform to display our talents and get more resources. Get to know people who are as good as themselves, explore their greater potential, and at the same time find the best springboard to find the next platform, and build a solid ladder for their greater success in the future. In the current impetuous environment and the futility of reading, we should strengthen our long-term plans and ambitions without external interference.
People can't stop trying at any time. Life is like a 40-kilometer marathon, and our opponent is fate. Our pursuit is to get the life we want; The teacher can take us only one or two kilometers ahead. There is no point in taking the lead temporarily. The real winners are those who are persistent and determined.
I hope today's words are helpful to the students. Thanks again to all the teachers and students present, and to President Shen and Director Yang for providing valuable opportunities. Finally, I wish all students find their inner desires and pursue the best future with solid steps. Thank you.
