How to be an excellent waiter
Method 1: Part I: Looking for a service job.
1. Apply for a hotel that can provide training. There should be no inexperienced waiters in high-end bars in the city center. Get ready to face this difficult problem. Some managers will ask, "What would you do if someone bought wine with a fake ID card?" Or more directly, "What would you do if the customer was very dissatisfied with the food?" You should think these questions carefully and answer them well.
Prepare the questions you want to ask. Generally speaking, for example, it is good to ask "What do employees here need to succeed", which will also leave a good first impression on the manager. The manager usually asks you some questions, but this is often overlooked in the interview.
Method 2: Be a waiter.
1. When approaching the dining table, greet the customer with a smile, introduce yourself clearly and tell the customer your name. For example, you can say, "Hello, it's my pleasure to serve you. My name is _ _. Please look at the menu. Would you like an appetizer first? " When customers come in, you should greet them with a smile. Keep proper eye contact with customers and don't stare at them all the time. Some customers will feel uncomfortable and feel different when they come to dinner, so don't overreact with your eyes. Sit them down and hand them the drink list. At this time, you can take the initiative to chat with them, even if the customer has no intention of chatting.
When you hand in the drink list, turn clockwise from the person on your left. If the first one is a child, ask them if they want a drink first, then ask the lady, then ask the man, all in the order from left to right. At this time, you can also tell customers about the special dishes and promotional dishes provided by the hotel that day.
When the drinks are ready, just ask the customers if they have any questions about the menu. You can't worry at this time, unless they are particularly anxious, you still have to walk gracefully. They are ready to order, so you can order clockwise from the person on your left or closest to you. If the customer is not ready, you can serve the customer at the next table.
After the main course is served, you can ask the customer, "Do you want anything else?" Give them some time to think. Ask the customer five minutes later: "Are you satisfied with today's food?" In particular, ask them what they think of the main course: "What do you think of steak?" At this time, you should listen carefully and understand their thoughts from their body language: some people don't want to say anything even if they think the food is bad, but they will complain to you when they tip you. Bring them the ordered menu together. Don't take out only one customer's and others' unless the customer specifically requests it (this will happen if one or more customers leave first). Usually, some dishes will not appear later than others in the menu. In case you see such trouble first, you can simply explain it and ask the customer what to do.
When a dish is served, it is necessary to clean the plate of the last dish as soon as possible, especially when the customer obviously intends to do so. Clean up the last dish thoroughly before the next one is served. Before cleaning the plate, please be sure to ask the customer politely if they can take it off. Your attitude and tone should be in harmony with the dining atmosphere of customers. Generally speaking, it is best to say, "May I help you with this/these plates?" Don't ask when they eat. If the customer is talking and there is food on the plate, don't interrupt and ask if they have finished eating. You have to wait a while and ask again when you come back.
After the main course is finished, you can ask, "Do you want to see the dessert menu?" This kind of question can make them order more things, so they will mention it specially. Besides, if you ask, they will be happy to order. Before serving the main course, before the customer orders dessert, clean up all the bread and/or soup given away.
6. charge. Tell customers that they can swipe their cards, they pay cash, you get change, customers swipe their cards, and you swipe their cards. Never ask customers if they need change, and don't think that change is a tip for you-just change, and give customers change and receipt quickly. When you come back, thank the customers and say "Nice to meet you" and "Hope to see you again soon". In this case, if they seem to stay after dinner, you just have to say "thank you" as if they want something else.
