Why does Shantou always ring today?

Today is the day when Shantou fell. Every year on this day, the alarm will ring.

1June, 939, in order to strengthen the blockade of China's south coast and cut off China's contact with the outside world, the Japanese invaders issued the order to capture Shantou city and Chaozhou. On June 2 1 day, the Japanese invaders flew 44 sorties and bombed Shantou on a large scale.

On the morning of June 2 1 and 1939 (Dragon Boat Festival), Goto, head of the 23rd Japanese Army 19 Hybrid Brigade and commander of Yuedong School, led more than 3,000 people, more than 30 ships and more than 20 planes from 6 brigades, and invaded Shantou on a large scale at the same time. In the early morning of the same day, the Japanese army landed at Zhoucuo (now Longxiang Street) from the outside of Xinjin estuary. At that time, the defenders fought fiercely with the Japanese for more than an hour, but they had to evacuate because they were outnumbered. The Japanese army then went to Jicuo Sea and Land, and confiscated it inside and outside. The Japanese army in Pearl Pond (now Zhu Chi) attacked Shantou in three ways: one way landed in Xingang (now Xinxi Town) with warships, and then surrounded Anbu (now Chaoan County) with Danjiayuan (now Outing Street) and Yuepu (now Yuepu Street); Take a motorboat all the way from Xingang (Shang Tong) to Xinjinjiang (ditto) to attack Anbu; One road was through Jicuowei (now Xinpu County), and the next day Shantou was occupied and Shantou fell.
