Life of Ma Ji

Ma Ji (1934-2006), a representative figure of China's new cross talk, a famous cross talk master and performing artist. A key figure in the art of modern crosstalk. He inherited and developed the Hou style, blazed his own creative path, which was followed by most of the later comers of crosstalk, and made an indelible contribution to Chinese crosstalk.

Ma Ji’s original name is Ma Shuhuai. A native of Huangzhuang Village, Baodi County, Tianjin. When he was young, he worked as an apprentice in Shanghai. After the founding of New China, he worked in Xinhua Bookstore in Beijing and performed cross talk. In 1956, he was transferred to the Central Radio Rap Group. In the same year, he joined the Communist Party of China. He has successively served as a standing committee member of the third, fourth and fifth committees of the All-China Youth Federation, a member of the fifth CPPCC Committee, a standing director of the Chinese Music Association, and the leader of the rap troupe of the Central Broadcasting and Art Troupe. He is a crosstalk actor in the rap troupe of China Broadcasting Art Troupe.

Ma Ji died of a heart attack at home at 10:25 a.m. on December 20, 2006, after being rescued by the Tiantongyuan Branch of Changping District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Beijing. He was 72 years old.

He has published a cross talk anthology "In Praise of Mountaineering Heroes", and his cross talk works "Telephone", "Portrait" and "New Peach Blossom Spring" have been made into movies.

Guo Qiru

Crosstalk actor. Pekingese, Manchu. He attended private school for six years when he was a child and loved cross talk. At the age of 23, he studied civilized drama at Hongkui Society in Beijing. At the age of 25, he became a teacher of Liu Dezhi and learned cross talk. Since the 29th year of the Republic of China, he has collaborated with Hou Baolin to perform for Hou Baolin. They performed together for the first time at the Yanle Theater in Nanshi, Tianjin, and became a blockbuster. It was also broadcast on the radio and expanded its influence, becoming famous. During the twenty years that Guo Qiru collaborated with Hou Baolin, he specialized in praise. He has always advocated that "praise should be withered, and teasing should be joyful."

Together with Hou Baolin, he processed and performed many new crosstalks that reflected real life, such as "Night Journey", "Prelude to Divorce", etc. At the same time, a number of old traditional programs were reorganized and processed, turning the old into new and becoming their popular masterpieces.
