Xuefeng Mountain Tunnel is the largest control project of Shaohuai Expressway, a national key construction project. It was designed in 2002. It is the longest highway tunnel designed by China and the third longest highway tunnel in China when it is completed.
It is a four-lane tunnel with a total length of 6.95 kilometers, of which the left tunnel is 6946 meters long and the right tunnel is 6956 meters long, and the estimated investment of the tunnel is 500 million yuan. Construction started in July 2004 and was successfully completed on August 19, 2006.

Dongkoutang Tunnel is a four-lane multi-arch expressway tunnel built from top to bottom, with a clear width of 22.0m and a clear height of 5.0m.. The inner contour is in the form of a single center circle with curved side walls and straight middle walls. 60*40 cable trench is set under the outdoor service road of the left and right tunnels, and 45*35 rectangular drainage ditch is set under the pavement. A cable trench with a width of 50*40 is set on the left side of the intermediate wall, and a drainage ditch with a width of 50*40 is set on the right side.

In the greening of Shao-Huai expressway, the linear characteristics and functional requirements of the highway are combined to make the greening and beautification subordinate to the needs of the functional landscape of the highway. On the basis of highlighting the greening characteristics in mountainous areas, through the comparative selection and rational layout of plant varieties, we pay attention to the heterogeneity, regionality, adaptability and symbiosis of various plants. Woody plants have developed roots, which can not only absorb soil and water well, but also purify the air 20 times as much as herbs. At the same time, relying on the terrain characteristics along the highway, the combination of point, line and surface makes the main body of the highway more harmonious with the surrounding environment.
The design of Shao-Huai Expressway is based on ecological principles. While paying attention to aesthetics, we should give full play to ecological effects and restore ecological balance. In terms of aesthetics, the landscape design concept of "greening, beautification, lighting and humanity" is established to achieve the perfect integration of environmental protection, driving function, landscape ecology and visual comfort of drivers and passengers. In terms of ecological function, Shaohuai Company controls soil erosion and optimizes the ecological environment by strengthening slope protection, subgrade and pavement protection, system protection, drainage facilities and greening projects. At the same time, the transformation is consistent with the original terrain, and the appropriate level is flat, and the appropriate slope is sloping. After the transformation, the site was designed in sections, with trees and grass planted naturally in groups of three or five trees, avoiding rigid planting in rows and columns.

Shao Huai Company and the Director's Office learned from the experience and lessons of previous expressway construction, paid attention to nip in the bud, and established a three-level quality system, a lifelong responsibility system for quality and a one-vote veto system for quality. At the same time, the Director's Office set up a roving supervision team according to the actual project, and inspected the construction units of each supervision office every month. It has carried out more than 30 special inspections in seven aspects, including subgrade, bridge, tunnel, protection, environmental protection, housing construction and electromechanical, and issued more than 30 roving supervision notices, so that the problems found can be rectified in time.

According to the characteristics and difficulties of mountainous expressways, as a scientific and technological subject of western traffic construction, "Study on Key Technologies of Xuefeng Mountain Extra-long Highway Tunnel" has carried out scientific and technological research on geological exploration technology, information design and construction, ventilation technology research, disaster prevention technology, nondestructive testing, etc., and achieved remarkable results in ventilation scheme optimization, geological advance prediction, waterproof and drainage, etc. In the aspect of tunnel waterproofing, according to the suggestion of the research group, Shaohuai Company used EVA and ECB, which are better waterproof materials at present, to replace rubber waterproof board in the design.
In the construction of ultra-thin bridge deck, Shaohuai Road took the lead in popularizing cement concrete slipform in China, and at the same time used bridge deck milling technology to ensure the smoothness, strength and thickness of the bridge deck, which successfully realized the large-scale application of this work in Shaohuai Road. In the process of tunnel construction, firstly, the tunnel cement concrete pavement paver is used for paving construction, and the asphalt pavement is washed with coarse aggregate, which ensures the smoothness of the pavement and reduces the driving noise.
