Baoding, known as Shanggu, Baozhou and Fu Bao in ancient times, also known as Boot City, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hebei Province and one of the central cities in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei approved by the State Council.

Baoding is located in the west of central Hebei Province, east of Taihang Mountain, west of Jizhong Plain, east of Langfang City, southeast of Langfang City and Cangzhou City, south of Hengshui City, southwest of Shijiazhuang City, west of Shanxi Province, northwest of Shanxi Province and Zhangjiakou City, north of Beijing City and northeast of Langfang City.

Baoding is located in the southwest of Beijing. According to the Records of Baoding County in Hongzhi period of Ming Dynasty, Yan Zhaowang once built Yangguangcheng five miles east of Baoding, which was a place for grazing horses. Therefore, the towns in Baoding originally appeared to protect the security of Yan State.

Baoding was originally centered on Qingyuan, and Qingyuan County was established in the first year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (477). It was burned by Qidan soldiers in the Five Dynasties. In the first year of Stegosaurus in the Northern Song Dynasty (960), Zhao Kuangyin set up the "Baosai Army" in the abandoned city of Qingyuan, and in the ninth year of Taiping and Xingguo in the Northern Song Dynasty (984), it was promoted to "Baozhou". In the first year of Jin Zhenyou (12 13), the Mongols captured Jin and Bao Guo.

In the 22nd year of Emperor Mao of Mongolia (1227), the city was rebuilt, and in the 12th year of Yuan Dynasty (1275), Shuntian Road was changed to Baoding Road, which became famous, meaning to defend the metropolis (Beijing) and stabilize the world. In the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1368), the Ming Dynasty changed "Baoding Road" to "Baoding House", which was the beginning of Baoding House. In the Qing Dynasty, it was the seat of provincial, state and county governments.
