My friendship with Zhang (Haruki) lasted for ten years from before the May 4th Movement to before and after the Guangzhou Uprising (19 18- 1927). He is a comrade-in-arms with wisdom and courage in my revolutionary struggle. This is another good friend whose name I have heard for a long time.
Comrade Taylor led the Guangzhou Uprising and died heroically for 55 years. In memory of the martyrs, I remember them with infinite reverence.
Our first contact was around the May 4th Movement, when he was one of the leaders of Beiyang University Student Union. He came to Peking University with Yu Fangzhou to make contact with the work of the Student Union. When we first met, after a brief greeting, he said, "We are villagers." I was very surprised. He said: "I live in Jiangsu, and I should be a child of Jiangdong. Your family lives in Dongting, Hunan, and the land belongs to Nanchu. We are indeed the folks of' Three Chus' (that is, Dongchu, Xichu and Nanchu). " Taylor is magnificent, generous and humorous. He expressed deep indignation at the various perversions of the warlord government in betraying the country and seeking glory. He is also very enthusiastic about young people and students pursuing science and democracy. Although this is the first time, it is impressive. Later, I often went to Tianjin and met him many times to discuss my work.
Among the teachers in Peking University, there is a Russian teacher named Bai Levi, who teaches Russian and studies China literature. He is a sinologist and has contacts with me. He learned some news and documents about the October Revolution in the Soviet Union from Belarus. When Dentelle came to Peking University, he showed interest in the October Revolution. Both he and I often meet Bai Liewei. During this period, we were all influenced by the October Revolution of the Soviet Union and the European Revolution at that time. At that time, the Sino-Russian news agency in Beijing (the Tass news agency) recruited some students as staff, and Taylor readily applied. Later, I gradually became more in contact with the Soviet Union, and I strengthened my belief in taking the road of the October Revolution. Taylor once founded Lai Bao, a newspaper in Tianjin, and translated the news of how factories under imperialist rule exploited workers and the news of workers' strike struggle from the local English Times, exposing the evils of the capitalist system. These are his early revolutionary practices, and his work in Tianjin was earlier than others.
1920, during the gestation and establishment of the Peking University Marxist Theory Research Association, some Tianjin students, Han and An took the lead in participating in the Peking University Marxist Theory Research Association. After the founding of the Party, Taylor has participated in the activities of the Party organization and frequently traveled between Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Japan.
1923, the "February 27" strike broke out, shocking China and foreign countries. This strike is a great sacrifice. Some people outside don't know the truth and have all kinds of unrealistic opinions about the strike, which has also become the topic of the party's "three major" debates. However, Taylor has a clear understanding of the significance of the "2.27" strike. He lashed out at those false statements. Later, he explained the meaning of "Erqi" for the article, pointing out that "Erqi Movement expressed the leading position of the proletariat in the national movement in China for the first time, and Han Jing railway workers were pioneers for people's freedom" and "Erqi Movement opened up a new era of China workers' movement", with a clear attitude and accurate evaluation. In this way, he expressed his wise judgment on the right and wrong of revolutionary historical facts at the "Three Great Congresses".
I worked with Taylor for a long time when I was working in the Third Central Committee of Shanghai. At that time, Taylor was the translator of international representative Marin, and often held meetings in C.O. organs. He likes to ramble before, during and after the meeting, which is a topic from ancient times to the present. Especially when commenting on the current affairs and characters of the moon, he is more argumentative. Wang Xichun (the three chief staff of the Central Committee) often drafts an article for the record. At that time, we both participated in the editorial board of the Guide. On the editorial board, he mainly writes articles on international politics and economy. He said: The Guide is not necessarily good and impeccable in every article, but on the whole, it is indomitable and pioneering for the revolution, just like an arc lighthouse, which plays a navigation role in stormy waves. Taylor is very strict in editing. Taste said: "If you don't regularly check the articles published in the Guide, collect readers' criticisms, pay attention to the reactions and influences of the masses, and really play a navigation role. We must not be careless. "We are always responsible for the manuscript to review each other. At that time, the international representative Ma Lin published an article in the Guide under the pseudonym of Sun Duo. If we find anything wrong, we will bring it up at once, and the author agrees to help us correct it. He said: "International representatives are always somewhat distant from China. We should give them more help in their articles. "After each issue of the Guide was finalized by the editorial board, he always studied it repeatedly, constantly modifying the manuscript from content to text, and took pains to be meticulous. For this reason, delivery and typesetting are often delayed. He said: "once an article is published, it is difficult to catch up, so we have to be cautious." "In addition to writing articles, he also did a lot of translation and revision work in the editorial department of the Guide. At that time, we also had a reference room and subscribed to many foreign newspapers and magazines. He is in charge of English and I am in charge of German. We organize, register cards and indexes together.
Taylor has extensive knowledge of Chinese and western history books. Chang Yun: "To establish a correct view of revolutionary history, we must be familiar with the history of ancient and modern China and foreign countries." He read the world history written by Wells and said to me, "The history written by wexler is biased. If you want to correct it, you need to write another world history to compete with it. " However, unfortunately, we can't do it because there is no time.
Taylor's political articles are rigorous in logic and strong in politics, and they were written only when his thoughts were mature. For example, he wrote an article in the 30th issue of the Herald, describing Li as a "Bodhisattva Li" and Cao Kun as a "monkey in Baoding", and wrote a short article in the Herald, satirizing the foreign firm comprador with a beggar (comprador) tone.
During the Great Revolution, the cooperation between our party and the Kuomintang was a very important decision made by the two parties at that time. Taylor's work in this field is also very successful and outstanding.
From 192 1 year, Datong Malin went to Guilin to attend the Sun-Ma talks, and later worked in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Mexico and Han, all of which were related to the cooperation policy between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. He has talked to me many times about his personal experience.
According to him, Sun Yat-sen himself has no definite belief in the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, and opinions within and around the Kuomintang are also quite different. Among them, the Kuomintang Rightists are suspicious and have resistance to the cooperation between the two parties. So when Sun Yat-sen first talked to Marin, he was psychologically worried.
Secondly, at that time, the Kuomintang was the largest party in China's revolutionary camp, and its history and influence also occupied a decisive position. Both the left and right factions of Sun Yat-sen regard themselves as revolutionary orthodoxy, and pay little attention to other domestic political parties, which creates certain obstacles to the cooperation between the two parties.
Taylor understood the above situation, and made many explanations to Sun Yat-sen and leftists by taking the opportunity of contact with the upper echelons of the Kuomintang. At that time, international representatives stood in the position of guest secretary, sometimes it was not convenient to speak frankly, so Taylor assisted them and vigorously promoted that the Soviet Union became stronger and stronger after the October Revolution, and was actually the only reliable ally of the world revolutionary camp. At the same time, it also shows that the essence of China's revolutionary policy and the rise of the new forces of workers and peasants are unprecedented and trustworthy new factors. These words are persuasive. Through the efforts of the two parties, the foundation of cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party was finally laid.
In 1924, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China sent a delegation to attend the Fifth Congress of the Communist International, and Dai was in Moscow. Members of the delegation went to Moscow in batches. When I first arrived in the Soviet Union, I didn't think it was a problem to find accommodation for everyone. I don't know. I feel strange and at a loss when I arrive at Moscow station. After most of the passengers have left the station or been picked up, I get a little impatient. Seeing that I was left alone on the platform and no one came to meet me, the attendant asked me where I was going. I told her to go to Komitar, and she said, "You should send a telegram to inform them that the bus has arrived in Minsk so that someone can pick it up." It was still early, and I hadn't gone to work yet. Asked if I knew anyone, I remembered Taylor, but I didn't know his address. The waiter suggested that I ask the China department of Pravda. They are well informed. She dialed Pravda for me and found the China Department. The other party asked me who I was looking for, and I said I was looking for Zhang Deliang. Taylor happened to be there that day. After he answered the phone, he blamed me for not telegraphing him earlier, and even said that he would come to the station to meet me at once. Moscow station is very big, but Taylor found me soon. Finally, we were arranged to stay in a luxury hotel in Moscow. Luxe, which means "luxury" in French, was the largest hotel in Moscow at that time.
As the secretary and translator of the CPC delegation, Taylor has a heavy workload. He is full of energy, amazing perseverance and methodical work, and has won constant praise. He said that he was proficient in Chinese and western cultures and had outstanding talents. Later, when I went to work in Europe, his burden became heavier, but when he was alone, he still felt very capable and happy.
He has a wide range of interests. In his spare time, he often visited the second-hand bookstores in Moscow, collected books and periodicals on western literature and art, and kept close contacts with Luo Yinong and Faye. They are all eager to learn and enjoy the outing. All the comrades who went to Moscow in those days visited Lenin Mountain. Once, Chang Chang, Taylor and Yi Nong and I went to Lenin Mountain for a holiday. Everyone brought their own cans and sat on the floor to discuss political, economic, cultural and artistic issues. When talking about Duncan Denken, a famous singer and dancer who visited the Soviet Union, Taylor commented that her dance was gorgeous, noble and lovely. He was also full of praise for Rodin's sculpture art, and even interested in liger's stunts tamed by seascape waves. It can be seen that he has a wide range of knowledge. When we were in Moscow, we also went to the opera house to watch ballet and opera, and we were bosom friends with Taylor.
At that time, the lyrics of "The Internationale" written by Eugè ne Bourdieu were originally in French, and there were three versions popular in Moscow: Russian, German and English. There was no Chinese version, which was inconvenient. Eastern college students try to translate, although they can score, but the meanings of words are not exactly the same. The delegation suggested revising the original text, and Taylor also actively participated. After much deliberation, this is the first draft. He also assisted East University students in translating the lyrics of the Communist Youth League into Chinese. Ty Chang Lei said: Bourdieu is a real revolutionary poet and a singer of the working class. He personally struggled for the great ideal of communism. Participated in the battle of the Paris Commune. He fought many times in his life and didn't waste his youth. Terry also carefully studied Bautier's other literary works and thought that these works and his Internationale were enough to make reactionaries fidget!
There is a "China City" near Moscow, which is the site of the Yuan Dynasty's March into Western Europe. Oriental students are interested in this history and have different views. An old comrade in the same trade improvised a poem and said: "Genghis Khan became an iron horse, and Jin Ge mixed Asia and Europe. Throughout the ages, who is the opponent, Momo is different from generation to generation. " Taylor told me that Genghis Khan, the expedition of Mongolian nationality, is an outstanding figure, which is indelible in history. It can be seen that he does not agree with history on weekdays.
19261In early February, Taylor came to Wuhan from Jiangxi, and I came to Wuhan by way of Shanghai from the north. I met again after a long separation and lived in Bao Mansion, the former site of the German Consulate. He is Bao Luoting's translator. We both work in Wuhan Central Bureau and are members of Hubei Provincial Committee. During the Fifth National Congress, we worked together in the Secretariat of the Presidium. In the meantime, we are in the same boat, sharing weal and woe and working together! Later, he moved to Shangyuan, Wuchang Lake, and I moved to the seat of Hubei Provincial Party Committee in Rouge Mountain (formerly Liu Yuchun Mansion). One is in front of the mountain and the other is behind it (across the snake mountain). He often crosses the mountain road to visit. Sometimes, the two of us will discuss the drama in order to study the problem or revise the manuscript, which will last until late at night.
In the struggle between Hankou and Jiujiang to recover the British Concession, he firmly supported the idea of Hubei Provincial Party Committee. In the frustration of Sino-British diplomacy, he and Fan Hong made the greatest efforts to recover the British Concession and dealt a blow to the arrogance of British imperialism in China. I remember that Bao Luoting made a speech on the balcony of the building where he lived at the mass meeting held in Wuhan in January to celebrate the recovery of the concession. Bao Zheng accused British imperialism of being an international robber, and diplomats all over the world were frightened. Taylor works as a translator. At that time, there were no microphones and other amplification equipment, but Taylor's voice was loud and conveyed the strongest voice of China workers. People were deeply encouraged and cheered. That year, it was the first time I heard that British imperialism was denounced as pirates, which greatly enhanced the prestige of the people of China.
1927 Xia Douyin rebelled, and our party used all its strength to mobilize workers, peasants and soldiers from all fronts to pacify the disaster. The Hubei Provincial Party Committee mobilized and went to the front to participate in the battle. Taylor is also very diligent. At that time, the armed rebellion of landlords in Huang An, Yangxin and Macheng counties in Hubei Province was also rampant. The situation on the ground is precarious. At the meeting of the provincial party Committee, it was advocated to adopt the strategy of "lightning speed is too fast to cover their ears" and take tough measures to deal with the landlord rebellion. Taylor took an active part in the operation. Taylor and I went to the countryside to participate in the struggle to restore order and consolidate the power of the peasant associations.
Taylor is insightful about the current situation. He had long known Chiang Kai-shek's double-faced characteristics and dictatorial ambitions. When working as a translator in Bao Luoting, Bao and Jiang often met, and he was often there. Jiang often deliberately courted him, but he was unmoved. In the crisis of Wuhan revolution, Taylor strongly advocated uniting the left to suppress the right. He once said: "The critical moment of the failure of the Great Revolution was the Zhengzhou Conference. Zhengzhou Conference is a replay of the Hongmen Banquet in history. " He also said that the Xuzhou meeting was the last scene that ruined the Great Revolution. These things are well known today, when many people were still in the dark.
1July, 927 15 After Wang Jingwei split up, Runzhi and I went to Hunan to organize the autumn harvest uprising. It was not until 1 1 that we met again in Shanghai. The central meeting decided to redeploy the national work and restore the working Committee, the agricultural Committee and the military commission. I also shoulder the work of the Central Working Committee. After the meeting, the central government decided that he would return to Guangzhou. Before he left, he went to the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (Working Committee) and talked about the Guangzhou Party and Youth League. On April 15, Guangdong warlord slaughtered revolutionary forces, which was severely damaged, and the cadre force needed to be enriched urgently. He put forward a new struggle plan and estimated the situation. To this end, the All-China Party Committee held a special meeting. I conveyed Taylor's suggestion and put forward the issue of transferring cadres to cooperate with Guangdong's work and strengthening the Guangdong Working Committee. This meeting decided to send some comrades to Guangdong to enhance their combat effectiveness. Taylor also said that after returning to Guangdong, the scale of the workers' movement should be restored first. Strengthen the armed forces of workers and peasants and create a new situation of struggle. Later facts showed that the above-mentioned comrades played an important vanguard role in the Guangzhou Uprising. When Taylor worked with Bao Luoting in his early years, he had more contact with military work and was familiar with armed struggle. He personally presided over the Guangzhou Uprising.
After the Guangzhou Uprising, the news was first sent by the Soviet Consulate, and then Reuters published a simple telegram. The Central Committee is very happy. The All-China Federation of Trade Unions held a meeting to discuss the issue of unity and strength, and immediately decided to send Comrade Su to Hong Kong and Guangzhou. At the same time, in order to strengthen support for the Guangzhou Uprising, it was decided to send Tan Shoulin and Kei Ma to work in Guangzhou. But the next day, I suddenly got bad news. Taylor died in the battle and the army lost its commander-in-chief. Like a bolt from the blue, everyone was surprised by the news. At first, people had all kinds of doubts. It has been confirmed that most of the uprising troops in Guangzhou lost in the fierce fighting in the city, with countless casualties, except for a few who withdrew from the city and moved to Dongjiang!
The fierce fighting and failure of the Guangzhou Uprising is a great event since the founding of our Party, and its influence has shocked the whole country and the world, and the comrades of the whole Party and the workers and peasants are extremely sad. After the Guangzhou Uprising, I was ordered to patrol the south, convene a Kowloon meeting, distribute pensions, and actively restore the party and trade union organizations destroyed by the enemy. Comrade Chen Yu, Deng Fa and He Chang who attended the meeting recalled the Guangzhou Uprising and Taylor's fighting and sacrifice in Dongshan. At the meeting, they were full of passion and sorrow. At that time, I was filled with indignation, looked like I respected God, and wrote poems in memory of Ray.
Zhong Lingxiu,
Taylor sea dragon
Xuanang crossing the ridge table,
Be a pioneer of violence.
Zhenhai Yang Lian kettle,
The Pearl River is very handsome for workers and peasants.
Looking up at the red granite, after thousands of years of Changhong. On the first anniversary of the Guangzhou riots, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions issued a declaration commemorating the Guangzhou riots and prepared a special commemorative issue (which could not be realized due to printing conditions). The third issue of China Workers published many commemorative articles with the theme of Guangzhou riots. I also wrote an article under the pseudonym "The Sea" to commemorate the brilliant achievements of the unsung heroes of the Guangzhou riots.
