Life of Characters in Lin Yishun's Works
17 years old, Lin Yishun completed his studies and entered the business world to study according to the habits of overseas Chinese society at that time. He has worked in Xinchang Meibudian, Fujian businessman He Chun and Chen Tai Timber Company by his uncle Zhang Yongfu (Raoping, Guangdong). He has accumulated a lot of business knowledge since he helped the manager get money in and out. Because of his diligence and ability, he won the trust of Zhang and Chen. In addition, the three of them are similar in age (Lin Yishun is younger than Zhang 10 years old and two years older than Chen). They have the same interests and similar ideas, so they have become inseparable friends. Later, they embarked on the revolutionary road together and became close comrades in arms. When Lin Yishun was 20 years old, his grandfather died and he inherited a part of his inheritance. Three years later, he got married and gave birth to 65,438+00 children, including Zhong Guo, Tadakuni, Zhong Min, Zhong Xian and Yu Ji.
Xiaotaoyuan club
After the Opium War in China, the Qing Dynasty declined more rapidly. Overseas Chinese who suffered from the weakness and incompetence of the country were deeply dissatisfied with this, and their hearts changed, and the wind of reform was quite popular for a while. However, under the influence of western democratic ideas, many radicals have begun to tend to revolution. Lin Yishun, a young man with a boiling passion, is particularly patriotic and nationalistic. 190 1 year, he and Zhang Yongfu, Chen Chunan, Lin Shouzhi (overseas Chinese in Anbu, Chaozhou) and others jointly organized a small political group called "Small Taoyuan Club", which often held meetings to discuss the domestic situation. When it comes to the perversion of the Qing court and the partition of China by the foreign powers, they are indignant. At that time, some revolutionary books and periodicals, such as Su Bao and the Revolutionary Army in Shanghai, The Soul of the Yellow Emperor and Ten Days in Yangzhou, began to be introduced into Singapore. They rushed to circulate it and were deeply moved. On one occasion, Lin Yishun read in Su Bao that the children of Han nationality were forbidden to study in Japanese Chengcheng Military Academy in Qing Dynasty, and said angrily, "If the China Revolution is delayed, we will have no way out!" From then on, he made up his mind to carry out the national revolution.
There are two people who have a great influence on Lin Yishun's thought, one is Huang Naisong and the other is You Lie. Huang Naixiang, a famous dutiful son in Fujian, took part in the Reform Movement. 1898 After the coup, his thoughts changed and he went to Nanyang to advocate national revolution to save the country. After Lin Yishun and Zhang Yongfu met him, they had exchanges or got together and had a good talk. You Lie is a veteran of the Hui nationality. Before the meeting was established, he often got together with Sun Yat-sen, Sun Yat-sen and others to talk about the anti-Qing uprising, so he was called "four bandits" by people at that time. After the failure of Sanzhoutian Uprising in Huizhou, he went to Singapore to organize Zhonghetang among the lower-class overseas Chinese to carry out anti-Qing activities. 1903, Huang, assistant editor of Tiannan Daily, introduced him. He met Lin Yishun and others, became friends, and often participated in the discussion of "Small Taoyuan Club". Under the influence and participation of Huang, You and others, Lin Yishun and others began to move from empty talk revolution to practical revolution.
1June, 903, the Su Bao case occurred in Shanghai, and Zou Rong and Zhang Taiyan were arrested and imprisoned by the British concession authorities, ready to be extradited to the Qing government. Lin Yishun, Zhang Yongfu and Chen Chunan were very anxious when they heard the news. They quickly called the British consul in Buhai in the name of the Small Taoyuan Society, asking him to invoke the international provisions that a third country has the right to protect political prisoners and refuse the extradition request of the Qing Dynasty. This is the first time that overseas Chinese in Nanyang openly rebelled against the brave actions of the Qing court.
After this action, Lin Yishun and others raised funds to reprint more than 20,000 copies of Zou Rong's Revolutionary Army, which was renamed "Tucun" for the convenience of dissemination. After the book was printed, part of it was sent to Kongmingzhai, the only bookstore in Singapore, for sale. He sent it to Shantou for retail without telling the bookstore. Some of them were sent to all parts of the country, even to imperial academy and the Prime Minister's yamen in the Qing Dynasty, and threw this revolutionary declaration into the hearts of rulers. Up to now, there are still about 10,000 copies smuggled into China by Huang Naisong and Lin Yishun in two batches, which are widely distributed in eastern Guangdong and southern Fujian to make friends with patriots from all walks of life. Their activities created a revolutionary atmosphere in these places. The "book stories" they distributed spread between Fujian and Guangdong, inspiring many patriots to embark on the road of democratic revolution.
Tunan Daily and Sun Yat-sen
In order to inherit the closed Su Bao's work of arousing people and the masses, Zhang Yongfu and Chen Chunan, which are relatively rich, sponsored it at the instigation of You Lie. At the beginning of 1904, they founded the first newspaper in Nanyang to publicize the revolution and overthrow the Qing Dynasty-Tunan Daily. Lin Yishun actively participated in the preparation of the newspaper and took the responsibility of starting contact. Due to the general lack of understanding of the revolution by overseas Chinese in Nanyang, many rich and powerful middle and upper class people regard the revolution as a heinous crime, so when the honorary editor You Lie wrote a publication under the pseudonym of "Xing Wu ji zi" and clearly revealed the purpose of running a newspaper, Lin Yishun and them were attacked by groups and cursed as fatherless, ungovernable and lawless. At first, there was opposition in the society. "Later, relatives were scolded and friends broke up." Royalist overseas Chinese businessmen even plotted to crush the business between Chen Chun and Zhang Yongfu, and the British colonial authorities also responded to the request of the Consul General of the Qing Dynasty. Warn them again and again. It's stressful. Some people in the newspaper were depressed and asked to resign, but Lin Yishun, Chen Chun An and Zhang Yongfu were indifferent. What worries them is that the sales of newspapers have been blocked. Usually, there are only more than 30 subscribers, and even if they give away for free, they can only send out about 1 000 copies, which means that the original intention of revolutionary propaganda is not feasible. In order to break the ice, they specially designed and printed a beautiful monthly card during the Spring Festival of 1905. There are 20 words written by Shi Dakai, the general of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, on the monthly card, which are "Enduring the rags of the country and returning the heroes of the Central Plains to my rivers and mountains". There are words on both sides: "The day of writing is the tide of global revolution; Imagine a new world, book southeast ",with liberty bell and the Independence Flag in the middle. It is novel in form and propagandizes a strong patriotic revolutionary thought. After it was distributed to overseas Chinese merchants and organizations in Southeast Asia, it was very popular, and the newspaper sales once increased to 2000 copies.
Soon, Sun Yat-sen was very excited when he saw this monthly card and Tunan Daily, which was sent to Tanshan New Newspaper in Honolulu. At that time, he was trying to contact overseas Chinese and raise the funds needed for the uprising, and he was very concerned about Nanyang, where overseas Chinese were most concentrated. In the past, I have been trying to find overseas Chinese in Nanyang who dare to rise up for revolution. At this time, I saw the Tunan Daily and was very excited to learn that Nanyang finally had a revolutionary mouthpiece. I immediately remitted $20 to Tunan Daily to buy this monthly card, and wrote to uriel to ask the organizers of Tunan Daily and expressed my hope to meet them.
1In June, 905, Sun Yat-sen went to Japan from Europe via Singapore. He made a special phone call to uriel to meet his colleagues in Tunan Daily, and then took a boat to Singapore. Lin Yishun, Zhang Yongfu and Chen Chunan boarded the ship under the guidance of uriel. Sun Yat-sen was arrested by the local government and ordered to leave the country for five years because he went to Singapore to rescue the Japanese soldier Miyazaki Yincang in 1900. Before the deadline, they negotiated with the police to ensure that Sun Yat-sen landed and had a party in Xiaotaoyuan Club. Lin Yishun and others reported to Sun Yat-sen about the revolutionary activities in Fujian and Guangdong. Encouraged by Sun Yat-sen, Sun Yat-sen thought it better to concentrate on acting alone, and told them to set up the headquarters of the revolutionary party in Japan, hoping that they would make active preparations in Nanyang so as to set up branches at that time. This was Sun Yat-sen's first contact with overseas Chinese in the Nanyang Revolution, and it was also the beginning of the integration of Nanyang revolutionary forces into the torrent of democratic revolution led by Sun Yat-sen. ..
As early as reading Su Bao, Lin translated Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary thoughts and expressed deep admiration for him. At this meeting, Sun Yat-sen was completely convinced by his revolutionary courage and profound political vision. From then on, he unswervingly followed Sun Yat-sen and tried his best to serve the revolutionary cause. Through contact, Sun Yat-sen also relied heavily on Lin Yishun. Present a new one every time in the future. He personally boarded the ship to get the important documents of the revolution, and during his stay in Singapore, he was entrusted with major issues and minor issues. Lin Yishun, on the other hand, gives full play to his ability of being good at English and communication, and often successfully completes the task.
Assist Sun Yat-sen to set up the League in Nanyang.
1906 In August, China League was formally established in Tokyo. In February of the following year, Lin Yishun and others welcomed Dr. Sun Yat-sen to the newly established League branch and held a grand welcoming banquet in the villa "Sun Yat-sen Garden" vacated in Zhang Yongfu. A few days later, Sun Yat-sen drew up the articles of association of the club, and immediately held an initiation ceremony for Li and Li. Lin Yishun didn't attend at that time. Sun Yat-sen specially asked Zhang Yongfu to invite him to attend the next day, so Lin Yishun joined the China League under the oath of Sun Yat-sen himself. Soon, Lin received it, and a group of people including Li, Li Youqiao and Xie Xinzhun joined in. In this way, China League Singapore Branch was established. Chen Chunan served as president (later changed to vice president), Zhang Yongfu as president (later changed to president) and Lin Yishun as communication officer (later called communication director). Singapore Youth League Branch is the first revolutionary seed sown by Sun Yat-sen in Nanyang. At the beginning, there were only 10 to 20 people. However, under the care and guidance of Sun Yat-sen, and with the efforts of Chen Chunan, Zhang Yongfu and Lin Yishun, this small seed grew rapidly and its members kept increasing (Chen Jiageng, who later became a famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader, was introduced to Sun Yat-sen by Lin Yishun in 1909 and joined the League the following year).
After the establishment of the Singapore League branch, Sun Yat-sen often invited Lin Yishun and others to Sun Yat-sen Garden to explain the situation at home and abroad in detail and explain the significance of the Three People's Principles.
1In July, 906, Sun Yat-sen returned to Singapore, accompanied by Lin Yishun, Li and others, visited the first city of Semeland and Furong in Malaya, and had in-depth discussions with Zhu Chi Ni, Dong Xinzhi and others, laying a solid foundation for establishing alliance branches in Furong and Guabupila in the following year. At the beginning of August, they came to Kuala Lumpur, the federal capital of British Malaya, held a mass meeting in the newly opened grand stage theater in the city, and made a public speech at the youth championship under the control of revolutionaries in Kuala Lumpur, and successfully established the Kuala Lumpur Youth League branch. 16, they came to Ipoh again. Who knows that Ipoh's royalist party is so powerful that it will be difficult to form for a while. The local royalists even plotted against them. Fortunately, they found it in time and moved overnight, out of danger. After returning to Kuala Lumpur, Lin Yi was appointed by Sun Yat-sen to go to Penang, the capital of the British Strait colony, with Chen Chunan. They called on Wu, the local overseas Chinese leader, and talked with Sun Yat-sen, and hit it off immediately. So, under the auspices of He Yishun, the Penang Youth League branch was established, and Goh Dang was elected as the chairman. Lin and Chen's trip to Penang was highly praised by Sun Yat-sen. ..
Under the four activities of Lin Yishun and other revolutionaries, all ports in Nanyang have established the League branch, which has become the region with the largest number of overseas members.
Founded ZTE Daily.
With the growth of the League, it is extremely necessary to have a revolutionary horn to arouse the consciousness of the vast number of overseas Chinese. At that time, Tunan Daily was closed due to excessive losses, and Nanyang Daily, jointly organized by Zhang Yongfu and Chen Chunan, also fell apart from its partners for advocating revolution, and was finally carved up and usurped by royalists. Lin Yishun, Chen Chunan, Zhang Yongfu and others jointly planned to raise funds from various revolutionaries, totaling 1937 yuan. 65,438+0, On August 20th, 907, ZTE Daily, the organ newspaper of the screwdriver Nanyang Alliance, was held at 65,438+08 JiNing Street. Lin Yishun became the first general manager. He Ziyao, Tian Tong, Ju Zheng, Tao, Hu, Lin Shishuang, Wang Jingwei, Fang and others successively served as chief editors. A few days before the newspaper was published, it happened that Hu followed Sun Yat-sen to Singapore. Hu wrote a preface for Zhongxing Daily: "Our aim is to develop people's wisdom and make millions of overseas Chinese have patriotic thoughts." ZTE Daily publishes four editions a day, including eight editions, and has set up agencies in London, Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Honolulu and various ports in Southeast Asia.
1908 At the beginning of June, there was a big debate between Zhongxing Daily and Nanyang Zongbao about the theory of revolution and monarchy. The fiercer the argument, the greater the impact, which is no less than the argument between People's Daily, the general organ newspaper of the Japan League, and Xinmin Series, a royalist newspaper. "Nanyang General Report" added troops one after another, and Kang Youwei's most proud disciples, Xu Qin and Wu Xianzi, personally came to the town to sit down. During this period, Sun Yat-sen had just moved to Nanyang, and party member, such as Huang Xing, Wang Jingwei, Hu (pen name Qu Fei, Bian Xie, Bian Xie), Tian Tong (pen name Hate Fa), Ju Zheng (pen name) and Lin Shishuang, also got together in Nanyang, so they joined the debate. Under Sun Yat-sen's personal guidance, he published an article in the newspaper under the pseudonym of "Nanyang Primary School Students", refuting the fallacy of royalists with sufficient arguments. The pen battle lasted for a year and finally ended in a fiasco of the royalists. More importantly, through the debate, Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary thought has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, forming the first climax of overseas Chinese in Nanyang supporting the motherland's revolution.
1909 Mid-term, ZTE's daily chemical industry was in crisis due to capital turnover difficulties. Lin Yishun proposed to Sun Yat-sen to reorganize Zhongxing Daily in the name of limited company, and subscribed for 20,000 yuan. Sun Yat-sen thought this method was very good, so he put him in charge of rectification and sent Hu and Wang Jingwei to recruit shares from comrades everywhere. Lin Yishun and Xu Zilin were also sent to Yangon, Myanmar. While talking about the revolution, he issued shares and distributed revolutionary books and periodicals along the way, which moved many overseas Chinese in Myanmar and embarked on the revolutionary road. After the reorganization of Lin Yishun, Zhongxing Daily finally weathered the storm and continued to play the role of revolutionary horn.
Participate in launching Huanggang Uprising in Ding Wei.
1The Huanggang Uprising in Chaozhou, which broke out on May 22nd, 907, was the first armed uprising led by Sun Yat-sen after the founding of the League, and also the first anti-Qing revolutionary action organized by the Overseas Chinese Revolutionary Party in China.
The uprising began on 1904, and originated from Huang Naixiang and Lin Yishun's return to their hometowns to publicize the revolution. They contacted Xu Xueqiu at that time, and then contacted Xiao, Yu Chou, Chen Yongbo, Zeng Xingcun, Xu and others through Xu Xueqiu to gather the revolutionary forces in Chaoshan. Started building secret strongholds and planning armed uprisings. After Lin Yishun returned to Singapore, he kept close contact with Xu Xueqiu and Huang Nai Song, who were active in China, and jointly prepared for the uprising. Later, he joined hands with the comrades of the Singapore League to merge this revolutionary force of China into the big team of the League. 1905, when Lin Yishun and others met with Sun Yat-sen for the first time, they reported their work in Chaomei and Minnan Uprising. After the League branch was established, it helped Xu Xueqiu and others get in touch with Sun Yat-sen, and introduced them to meet Sun Yat-sen and join the League, so that the preparations for the future uprising could be carried out under the guidance of Sun Yat-sen. More importantly, Lin Yishun and others almost paid all the expenses of the Huanggang Uprising in Ding Wei. According to statistics, they raised funds for the uprising? About ten thousand yuan. Lin Yishun was not rich at that time, but he also gave everything to help, without stint.
Another thing he did for Huanggang Uprising was to rescue and resettle the exiled rebel soldiers after the uprising failed. Yu Chou, the leader of the rebel army, was arrested in Hong Kong. The governor of Guangdong and Guangxi falsely called him a bandit and demanded extradition. Lin Yishun, Zhang Yongfu, Chen Chunan and Zhang Laixi hired a famous Singaporean lawyer, Dou An, to defend them as a joint guarantee for businessmen. They also remitted money to the Hong Kong Youth League branch for many times as relief funds. At the same time, Lin Yishun and Sun Yat-sen went to Li Dou, editor-in-chief of Sin Chew Times, to persuade him to publicize the fact that Yu Chengcheng led the Huanggang Uprising in the newspaper and remind the Hong Kong authorities to respect the international regulations on the protection of political prisoners. Newspapers in Hong Kong have also reprinted them. With the full help of comrades all over the country, Yu Chengcheng finally won the case and was released to Singapore. When I was arrested, more than 0/00 soldiers of Huanggang Rebel Army/KLOC fled from Hong Kong to Singapore. Lin Yishun actively helps with resettlement, and many of them are arranged on the farm he runs.
Raise funds to resettle the rebels in exile
1907- 1908, Sun Yat-sen led the League to launch armed uprisings frequently in Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan provinces. During this period, the Singapore League was very active. They either donated money enthusiastically, planned publicity, or ran to raise money to help their fellow travelers and strongly supported the uprising. As the backbone of the branch, Lin Yishun actively participated in these work.
At that time, Sun Yat-sen often called comrades from all over the country to meet in Sun Yat-sen Garden, the headquarters of Singapore League, to plot various plans for charity. Lin Yishun often accompanied him and offered suggestions. He also listened to Sun Yat-sen's instructions and ran around to raise revolutionary funds. According to Sun Yat-sen's statistics, overseas Chinese in Nanyang paid about 654.38 million yuan to launch these uprisings and acquire ordnance. What Sun Yat-sen did not calculate was the activities and reception expenses of revolutionaries. Among them, the cost of more than 600 nominal army soldiers who retreated to Vietnam after the failure of the Shanbao Estuary Uprising to enter Singapore reached more than 80,000 yuan. Considering that overseas Chinese capitalists in Nanyang were unwilling to donate money at that time, most members of Nanyang League were not well off, which shows how arduous the fundraising work of Lin Yishun and others was.
1908, Hekou Rebels wanted to move from Vietnam to Singapore. Initially, the colonial authorities refused to allow it. Lin Yi accompanied Sun Yat-sen to meet with the Governor. He argued and agreed to go through the entry formalities in two batches on bail. So, Lin Yishun and others ran around again, asking lawyers, looking for Yin Hu to guarantee, raising the guarantee fee and finding a place to live ... Finally, they were able to settle down. However, the long-term living supply has become a problem. In addition, the composition of these immigrants is complex and mixed, some of them are sick, demanding money, making trouble, killing people, and even surrounding ZTE Daily and Sun Yat-sen's apartment to make trouble. So, in the same year1October 1 1, Sun Yat-sen wrote a letter to Lin Yishun, urging him to raise funds quickly and start the "Zhongxing Shishan Company" (quarry), so that these insurgents can stand on their own feet, find jobs and live and work in peace and contentment.
From 65438 to 0909, many uprisings in remote areas of Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan failed one after another. Chen Chun and Zhang Yongfu, which fully supported these initiatives, went bankrupt several times, and the alliance branch was weakened. In May of the same year, the Nanyang branch of the League moved to Penang, Sun Yat-sen left Singapore to seek international assistance in Europe, and Lin Yishun also went into the mountains to explore the cause of reclamation.
Spare no effort for the cause of the Republic
19110 In June, Wuchang succeeded in raising funds and the news reached Singapore. Lin Yishun jumped up with joy and said, "Our Korean revolution is finally strict today, so he got up again and enthusiastically sponsored Sun Yat-sen's Republican cause. 165438+ 10 In October, Sun Yat-sen passed through Singapore when he returned to China to undertake revolutionary leadership work. Lin Yishun followed his instructions, and Chen Jiageng and others raised huge sums of money and remitted them to the Nanjing Revolutionary Government. After the recovery of Guangdong, he participated in organizing the Guangdong Security Council in Singapore and raised donations from fellow villagers for disaster relief. Donations from overseas Chinese greatly supported the establishment of the Republic of China in spirit and material. In March, Lu presented letters of commendation to Lin Yishun and others in the name of the interim president in recognition of their contributions to the establishment of People's Republic of China (PRC).
The achievements of the Revolution of 1911 were quickly usurped by Yuan Shikai, and the "second revolution" initiated by revolutionaries failed one after another. The revolutionary ranks were filled with pessimism and disappointment, and some overseas Chinese party member broke away from the revolution, but Lin Yishun still supported Sun Yat-sen's efforts to rebuild the Democratic Republic. At that time, many Democratic Progressive Party dignitaries fled to Singapore, and he received them wholeheartedly. Hu, Wang Jingwei, Li Liejun, Chen Jiongming, Cen Chunxuan, Heng, Bai, Fang Shengtao, Huang, Zhan Yingfen, Zou Lu and Zhang Ji all lived in his Zhanhua villa and plotted to overthrow Yuan Shikai. Because of his generous reception of comrades coming and going from the motherland, he has a great legacy of Meng Changjun, so he is called "the king coming and going". Chaozhou people called pineapple "Fan Li", which is homophonic with "contact" in Chaozhou dialect. At that time, Lin Yishun was called "the king of pineapples" because of his successful planting career, and "contact" was the homonym of "the king of pineapples". )
19 15 10 domestic and international anti-yuan actions are being carried out nervously and secretly. Lin Yishun arranged for Chen Jiongming, Bai and others to use his "Tongmeixing" at No.5 Meizhi Road in Xiaopo as the secret headquarters of overseas anti-Yuan activities. The building sent some secret messages. It was World War I and Singapore was at war. Private radio stations are strictly prohibited. The secret news of "Tomstar" was discovered by the authorities. 165438+1On the evening of October 3, the colonial government sent a large number of military and police to surround the house. Lin Yishun lived on the third floor with his family that night, and hurriedly threw telegrams, letters, password books and documents into the furnace for burning. Although the investigation found that there was no harm to the allies and the authorities did not pursue it again,' but many precious documents and materials died as a result.
In February of 65438, Yunnan opposed Yuan independence, and Lin Yishun was appointed as Nanyang soldier, raising more than 600,000 yuan. After the fall of Yuan Shikai, he was awarded the first prize for supporting the Republic. He sided with Sun Yat-sen and gave economic support to lord protector and the Northern Expedition. 19 17 was appointed by sun yat-sen as the Senate of the grand marshal's office. 19 19, was hired as the consultant of the Fujian-Guangdong reinforcement headquarters. The following year, Sun Yat-sen ordered the Fujian-Guangdong Army to return to the division to expel Guangxi warlords. He raised 300,000 yuan for them, so he won the first prize. Later, he was hired as a senior consultant of Guangdong Governor's Office, an industrial envoy consultant, an honorary consultant of China Bank, an adviser of the Ministry of Finance, a disaster relief correspondent, and an honorary interviewer of the Kuomintang Party History Compilation Committee, and kept in touch with the National Government as a consultant.
According to the statistics of Singapore's Mr. Pan Xingnong, Lin Yishun spent hundreds of thousands of yuan for the democratic revolution in his life.
19 19, Lin Yishun plans to visit the scenic spots north of the Yangtze River when he returns to China. When the north and the south were hostile, Sun Yat-sen advised him not to go. He laughed it off and went to Tianjin by boat. Contrary to Sun Yat-sen's fears, senior officials of Beijing government are eager for this overseas Chinese revolutionary who has become a millionaire. Zhang Guogan, Minister of Agriculture and Commerce, and Li Hedai, former president, and Feng, acting president, successively summoned him, hired him as a senior consultant, and awarded him the Golden Harvest Chapter. Even Duan, who holds the military and political power of Beiyang and is hostile to the People First Party, listened attentively to his talk about rejuvenating the country through industry. In order to win him over, the Beijing government appointed him as the deputy director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau, but he refused. Thousands of miles north and south, the dignitaries of both sides are fighting for gifts, which is a spectacle.
Pineapple King and Chewing Gum King
When Lin Yishun ran for the democratic revolution in his early years, he was already interested in the economic circles. He often said: "The prime minister is responsible for state affairs, such as raising feathers. If we can express our wishes, we can easily do some great things in the business community. " 1908, Lin Wenqing, an old friend of Sun Yat-sen and a famous Singaporean doctor (later president of Xiamen University) raised funds to set up "Sambo Gum Co., Ltd.", and was appointed as the first general manager because he appreciated Lin Yishun's talent. He expanded the company's original rubber from several hundred acres to several thousand acres, which made the company's business flourish. Before and after this, he also built a farm in Sambawang area at his own expense, and placed hundreds of new rebels who had no way out, and invited Yu Tong, Chen Yongbo, Yu Yuyan and other rebel leaders to help manage it. These revolutionary soldiers helped him with farming and made the farm develop rapidly. At that time, the demand for rubber in the world was still very small, and many people dared not venture to plant rubber extensively, but he and Chen Jiageng seized the opportunity and made a lot of investments. Gradually, his farms spread all over Singapore and Johor, and 20,000 acres were reclaimed in Sambawang alone. When he vigorously developed and bought other people's farms, the price of pineapples in Malaysia was so low that the cost of transporting them to the city was not enough, so the pineapples originally planted in the farms he bought were all white stickers. He planted rubber trees in the pineapple field. In this way, there will be double profits in the future.
The year when the Revolution of 1911 broke out happened to be a bumper harvest period for Lin Yishun to manage farm pineapples. At this time, the market price of pineapple suddenly soared, from 30 cents to 20 cents, so he easily made a profit of more than 100 thousand yuan. So he founded Lin Yishun Company in Meizhi Road. After the founding of the Republic of China, many overseas Chinese revolutionaries returned to China to go into politics, but Lin Yishun stuck to the purpose of not being an official and still buried himself in planting. This year, the pineapple production of his farm ranked first in all Malaya, and the price of pineapple rose again, which made him more profitable. He hired tens of thousands of workers, the local cannery relied on him to supply raw materials, and the sugar price also watched him fluctuate. Therefore, he became the famous "pineapple king" in Malaysia. Since the third year, rubber has also reached the harvest period; Wealth rolled in. He took the opportunity to set up "Tongmei" and "Yi Tong" companies, engaged in rubber processing industry and import and export business, and used surplus funds to invest in fire protection, insurance and banking, and also engaged in contracting and agency business. By 192 1 year, he had accumulated millions of dollars, and together with Chen Jiageng, he was called "the king of rubber".
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Sambawang area in Singapore was still a barren hill. With the efforts of Lin Yishun, Chen Jiageng and Lin Wenqing, shops, theaters, villages and towns have been built one after another, and now it has become the satellite towns of Singapore. To commemorate his achievements in opening up Sanbawang, many villages and roads in this area are named after Lin Yishun and his family, such as Yishun Village, Tadakuni Village, Yishun Road, Wei Hua Road, Yishun No.8 Road, China Road, Tadakuni Road, etc ... Even the newly built Yishun Town in the 1980s was named after him.
1923, Lin Yishun married Chen Jiageng's daughter Li Hao for her eldest son, Zhong Guo. He also married his daughter to the son of Nanyang Super Sugar Wang Huang. Secondly, the second son, Tadakuni, also married the daughter of a wealthy Singaporean businessman, Li Junyuan. In this way, the four prominent families in Singapore and Malaysia are well married to each other and extremely rich.
