Representative Works of Bamboo Lacquer Woodcarving in Ningbo

This dazzling, gorgeous and noble Ningbo sedan chair was a product of the Republic of China and has now become a rare cultural relic.

The sedan chair is 3m high,1.5m long and 0.95m wide. It weighs about 200 kilograms and is carried by eight shoulders. The top of the sedan chair consists of five arches of different sizes. A golden "Kuixing" is jumping on the lotus. The pavilion corner is the top of the dragon dance, and the cornice is the phoenix spreading its wings. At the four corners of the car eaves, there are the leading flower boards of Zhu Jin's figures, and the high relief Jiang Ziya Weishui catches Wang Wen, who pushes his teeth.

Close to the top and bottom of the sedan chair is the most wonderful 16 flower board on the eaves of the sedan chair, which is carved with characters from Romance of the Three Kingdoms, such as carp yue longmen, Liu Guan and Zhang Sanying fighting against Lu Bu, Liu Bei seeking marriage, and Zhao Yun riding Changbanpo alone to save Adou. Rows of gold and silver embroidery are hung on each flower board. From the lower part of the cornice to the floor of the sedan chair, there are four walls, namely, upper, lower, front, back and side, which are mainly painted with painted glass with Kirin seeing off the son and the ancient philosophers, and are equipped with auspicious patterns such as spring magpies, dragons and phoenixes and various flowers.

There are more than 300 figures in the whole sedan chair, which is lifelike. The whole sedan chair is carved with gold, resplendent and magnificent.

Qin's ancestral hall is a descendant of Qin, which was built by Qin, the richest man in Ningbo in the old days. The roof of the stage is supported by 16 bucket arches, which rest on the top of the mountain with a single eaves. Dome caisson is composed of hundreds of carved plates and tenons, which spiral upwards, firmly and skillfully.
