The quality of school education and teaching has improved steadily. The number of college entrance examinations has been rising year after year, and the total admission rate and undergraduate admission rate are among the highest in similar schools in Shaoyang. 10 students have been admitted to Peking University and Tsinghua successively, and dozens of them have been admitted to famous schools such as Fudan University and China University of Science and Technology. Yao Jungan, Xiao Aihua, Yang Tao and other students won the top spot in Shaoyang college entrance examination respectively, and Yang Tao also won the top spot in Hunan liberal arts in the 2002 college entrance examination. In the college entrance examination in 2006, Li Pengcheng won the first place in Shaoyang. The student competition won 89 national prizes, 20 provincial prizes/kloc-0 and more than 200 municipal prizes. Five people in the Olympic Games won the national second prize and eight people won the national third prize. The Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition is well-known in the whole province. Dai Yingying, a "small inventor in Miao township", has obtained 15 national invention patents and was specially invited by Central South University in 2007. Yang Shana won the special prize in the first national oral English TV competition for senior high school students.

The school has successively won many honorary titles, such as National Excellent Unit of Youth Biological Hundred Activities, Provincial Garden-style Unit, Provincial Civilized Health Unit, Provincial Advanced Unit of Art Education, Provincial Safe and Civilized Campus, Municipal Advanced Unit of Democratic Management, Municipal Advanced Collective of Moral Education, and Municipal Civilized Unit.

Since its establishment 66 years ago, Chengbu No.1 Middle School has trained more than 20,000 high school graduates and sent more than 6,200 college students to institutions of higher learning.
