What does a foundry do?

Foundry is a factory specializing in casting technology to produce castings. Casting is a metal product obtained by pouring molten metal or alloy into a mold and cooling and solidifying. Castings can be used in various industries, including automobile, aerospace, energy, construction and other fields.

The foundry is mainly responsible for the following work:

1. Casting process design: according to the product requirements and design drawings provided by customers, determine the shape, size and material of castings and design the casting process.

2. Mold making: according to the shape and size of the casting, make the corresponding mold. Mold is usually made of sand mold, metal mold, ceramic mold and other materials.

3. Melting and pouring: according to the requirements of casting process, the required metal or alloy is melted and poured into the mold for pouring.

4. Cooling and solidification: after the metal is cooled and solidified in the mold, the casting is taken out.

5. Cleaning and dressing: Remove defects such as residual materials, burrs and air holes on the castings, and polish and dress them to ensure the quality and appearance of the castings.

6. Inspection and quality control: Carry out various inspections on the castings, including dimensional inspection, mechanical property test and metallographic analysis, to ensure that the castings meet the design requirements and manufacturing standards.

In the production process, the foundry needs to master the knowledge of casting technology, material characteristics and so on to ensure the production of good quality castings. At the same time, foundry also needs reasonable production equipment and management system to improve production efficiency and reduce costs.
