What are the procedures for working in Macao?

You only need to apply for a Macao work permit, that is, a foreign employee certificate.

Procedures and required documents:

Where non-professional foreign employees, professional foreign employees and domestic helpers are employed from countries or regions outside the mainland of China, they shall provide:

1. Complete the Application Form for Residence Permit of Foreign Employees (hereinafter referred to as the Application Form) and its photocopy;

2. A copy of a valid passport/travel document (only the identity information page is required) or an identity document that can be legally used to enter and leave Macao;

3. 1 inch half-color bareheaded recent photo with white background, 1 piece;

4. Photocopy of the employer's valid identification document (only applicable to employers who employ domestic helpers);

5. Copies of other supporting documents (specially designated by the "Employment Permit" instruction).

Date of issuance and effective date of foreign employee card

Date of Issue: the same as the date of issue of the income receipt.

Effective date: It is the same as the period approved by the employment permit or work permit issued by the Financial Secretary or the Director of Labor Affairs Bureau, unless a shorter period is required according to the legal system of the entry, stay and residence permit of the Macao Special Administrative Region.

Time limit for handling foreign employee cards

Within six months from the date when the employer or his legal representative signs the "Employment Permit" instruction at the Labor Bureau (commonly known as "Import Instruction") or the instruction takes effect.
