Application conditions for directly recruiting noncommissioned officers

The following are the general conditions for the China People's Liberation Army to directly recruit non-commissioned officers:

1, a citizen of China, aged between 18 and 22 years old (excluding 22 years old);

2. Have graduated from high school or above or equivalent;

3. The height of male is not less than 165 cm, and that of female is not less than160 cm;

4. No criminal record and bad habits;

5. Physical health meets the recruitment standards;

6. Qualifications required for other specific positions.

The specific conditions may be slightly different according to different regions and recruitment positions, subject to the official recruitment announcement of that year.

Non-commissioned officers, or "professional soldiers", have higher status than soldiers (ordinary soldiers). Non-commissioned officers of the China People's Liberation Army are generally selected from soldiers who have completed their service, and citizens with professional skills can also be directly recruited from outside the army to become non-commissioned officers. Non-commissioned officers do not belong to the cadre sequence and do not wear seniority badges.

On March 3, 2022, the Provisional Regulations on Non-commissioned Officers came into effect. In accordance with the regulations and decisions, the rank of non-commissioned officer shall be abolished. The ranks of soldiers are divided into ranks of non-commissioned officers and conscripts, and the ranks of non-commissioned officers are divided into ranks of third and seventh.

Nature of noncommissioned officers

According to the current legal documents, soldiers are divided into compulsory military service soldiers and voluntary military service soldiers according to the nature of service, and voluntary military service soldiers are called non-commissioned officers. The ranks of non-commissioned officers are divided into: ① Senior non-commissioned officers: first-class master sergeant, second-class master sergeant and third-class master sergeant. (2) Intermediate noncommissioned officers: Fourth-class master sergeant and staff sergeant.

③ Junior non-commissioned officers: non-commissioned officers and corporal. Non-commissioned officers are selected from conscripts who have completed active service, appointed from students who graduated from military academies, or directly recruited from citizens with professional skills in non-military departments. Non-commissioned officers must meet the following basic requirements: voluntary dedication to national defense, competence in their own jobs, education above junior high school, good health and good conduct.

The conditions for granting and promoting the rank of noncommissioned officers are as follows: ① Junior noncommissioned officers: those who are selected as junior noncommissioned officers after the expiration of their active service will be promoted to corporal; Corporal who continues to serve in active service after three years is promoted to sergeant. 2 Intermediate noncommissioned officers: if a noncommissioned officer is selected as an intermediate noncommissioned officer after serving in active service for three years, he will be promoted to a staff sergeant; If a staff sergeant continues to serve in active service for four years, he will be promoted to a fourth-grade chief sergeant. (3) Senior noncommissioned officers: senior noncommissioned officers selected after serving in active service for four years will be promoted to third-class noncommissioned officers;

If the third-class master sergeant continues to serve in active service for four years, he will be promoted to the second-class master sergeant; If the second-class master sergeant continues to serve in active service for four years, he will be promoted to the first-class master sergeant. The maximum service life of noncommissioned officers is 6 years for junior noncommissioned officers, 8 years for intermediate noncommissioned officers and 0/4 years for senior noncommissioned officers. Junior noncommissioned officers and intermediate noncommissioned officers shall, within the maximum period of active service at the corresponding level, determine the time of active service in accordance with the post setting regulations.
