Recruitment in debono

We know very well in our hearts: among several learning methods, such as academic education, vocational training, open classroom and special reading, the cost of reading is the lowest. We also agree that books are the crystallization of human wisdom, and the essence of reading is the psychological process of mutual influence and communication between readers and authors. Therefore, most of us choose reading as a learning method to increase knowledge, improve skills and change our minds.

But unfortunately, many times, this learning method has not achieved the expected results. In real life, many people buy dozens of special books on "Double 1 1" or "6 18" festivals, which are generally 50% off! After that, I just turned over the first few pages, that is, I just read the beginning and put the book on the shelf. Others cried and said: From tomorrow on, be a real scholar, concentrate on reading, and strive to finish two books a week and hundreds a year to become a knowledgeable scholar. As a result, I didn't really finish reading a book in a year, but I became a veritable Ye Gonglong fan.

What's even more funny is that many people don't feel guilty because they have spent a lot of money to buy a lot of books and haven't finished reading them. Instead, I found myself a bunch of embarrassing excuses. For example, "I'm so busy recently that I work overtime until twelve o'clock every day." How can I have time to watch it? " For another example, "in fact, you can guess the ending after reading the beginning, and there is no need to finish reading the book." More importantly, he said, "I am a slow reader, but I am a slow worker." After reading a book for several years, it's not bad to get full harvest! "

Because all the books are not finished or not finished on time, there is no learning effect at all.

Why did these things happen?

The author thinks that we may have underestimated the difficulty of this learning method. If you don't believe me, let's recall that in class, if you don't understand something, you can raise your hand to ask the teacher or discuss it with your classmates after class. But when I started reading, I couldn't understand it. Should I watch it a few times or ask someone else? If you ask someone else, who should you turn to for help? Therefore, at this time, we often throw our books aside and do other things.

In fact, except for some recreational books, such as Story Club and Companionship, we can read a book without any obstacles in a short time. In addition, like other introductory, general and professional books, and even novels with strong literariness, it takes not only time but also reading methods to completely chew them down.

Therefore, if you want to increase your knowledge, improve your skills, change your mind and become a professional through reading, you must seriously study some reading methods with twice the result with half the effort.

So what kind of reading methods can make you become a professional quickly? The author believes that McKinsey's sand pile rule can make our reading effect immediate.

McKinsey is a world-renowned consulting firm. When a new consultant joined the company, he first distributed three books to everyone: The Legend of McKinsey, The Golden Pagoda Principle and Talking with Pictures. Later, I told new employees that learning ability is very important for becoming a top consultant, especially the ability to gain actual combat experience indirectly through reading. Therefore, many new employees not only listened to the "Golden Tower Principle" course, but also listened to the "Sandpile Rules" when attending the induction training.

I was lucky enough to attend this course. Now, I'll take out the lecture notes on the sand pile law and share them with you. I hope you will like it.

Sandpile rules mainly have three contents: first, the main idea of sandpile rules; One is two kinds of books; One is the six order of reading. Now introduce them one by one as follows:

The main idea of the sand pile rule (see figure 1- 1) is that in order to build a high sand pile, the sand pile must have a large enough area and only one highest point.

In other words, if the area under the sand pile is not large enough, the height of the sand pile is not much higher.

Similarly, if you want to have a high degree of professionalism, you must have a strong reading ability, a wide range of knowledge, and only one major. Otherwise, "if the height is increased without widening the base, it will be repeated." You see, Huai Nan Zi two thousand years ago told us this truth.

In fact, in addition to the regular mode of on-the-job training, if you want to become a professional through reading, you don't just have to read professional books directly, because you need a certain professional foundation to understand professional books. In addition, even if you go to read an entry-level professional book, you need certain reading skills, otherwise you will either study for the sake of reading, swallow dates, and gain little; Either you don't know what you're talking about or you can't understand it, so you have to give up.

So, before we start reading, let's classify the books. The purpose is to let us know in advance which books are easy to read, which books are difficult to chew, which books should be read first and which books should be read later. Why ask for it? Because only by knowing this, can our reading be easy first and then difficult, step by step. Our reading can continue. We can go further and further on the road of studying, become professionals and even become experts in the industry.

Generally speaking, according to the different reading purposes, we divide books into two categories: recreational and educational (see figure 1-2).

These books are used to pass the time or relieve boredom, and can be divided into two categories: curious books and edifying books.

There are two main types of curiosity books: revealing things and understanding people. Such as ancient and modern unsolved mysteries, mystery novels, travel notes, etc. Belongs to books that reveal things; Biography, memoirs, diaries, letters, etc. It belongs to books about people.

There are two kinds of books with educational significance: popular novels and interesting stories. For example, Qiong Yao's romance novels and Jin Yong's martial arts novels all belong to popular novels; However, bosom friends, stories, Shan Hai Jing, Arabian Nights, Aesop's fables and so on. They are all interesting stories.

Note: Although recreational books are mainly for killing time and getting to know the truth, reading such books can also play other roles. For example, we can get some inspiration from biographies. For another example, we can also quote a famous person's diary to write a paper.

This kind of books can increase our wisdom and can be divided into three categories: books to increase knowledge, books to improve skills, and books to change our minds.

If divided according to different purposes, it will continue to be divided into teaching materials, monographs and papers. If divided by subject content, it will continue to be divided into philosophy, social science, natural science and comprehensive books.

But here, we are divided according to the professional level, and continue to be divided into general knowledge books, professional basic books, professional related books, professional module books and so on.

Common sense book, also called common sense book, refers to the condensation of the most basic knowledge of various subjects. It has two forms: the first form is a single book, that is, each book is an introductory book of a subject. For example, the invitation of sociology, what is economics and so on. These singles come together, covering philosophy, science, art and other disciplines, and become a collection of common sense books. Another form is a series, that is, a book, which covers a lot of knowledge of various disciplines. For example, Encyclopedia of China, Encyclopedia of Britain, Cihai, Chinese Dictionary and so on.

Professional basic books refer to the reading guidance of various subjects. It has two forms. One form is: a book is an introduction to a subject, such as an introduction to human resources, an introduction to psychology, etc., which belongs to teaching materials; Another form is that a book is an introductory book of a subject, such as what is sociology, what is management, invitation of philosophy, invitation of political science and so on. , belongs to the monograph.

Professional-related books refer to a certain relationship between one book and another in professional classification. It also has two situations. In one case, in terms of professional classification, this book is the mother theme of another book. For example, economics is the mother subject of marketing; Management is the motif of human resource management. On the other hand, in terms of professional classification, this book is an interdisciplinary subject of the other two books, or this book is a sibling subject of another book. For example, educational psychology is an interdisciplinary subject between pedagogy and psychology. Human resource management is a brother discipline of financial management.

Professional module books are independently formed after the overview of various subjects and some key chapters are further expanded and deepened. For example, the book Introduction to Human Resource Management has more than a dozen chapters, but the key content is only six chapters. After expansion, these six chapters can all become a book, namely, human resource planning, recruitment and allocation, training and development, performance management, salary management and labor relations management. So we call these six books professional module books.

What is a professional module book has been explained before. But here, the author particularly emphasizes that there are two main forms of professional module books: one is the theoretical frontier, that is, what is the most advanced theoretical knowledge recognized by the industry in this module; One is practical experience, that is, which of these high-end theories have been summarized into tried and tested work experience in practice. We must take these two books seriously. Because only by mastering these two books can you become an expert in the industry. 、

Darwin once said: in the long history, the species that can survive are neither the strongest nor the smartest, but can adapt to environmental changes.

Therefore, whether a person can adapt to this changeable society and get ahead in this complicated world must have five abilities, namely, thinking ability, action ability, learning ability, speech ability and writing ability. Therefore, books on skills promotion are also divided into five categories (see Figure 1-3):

Books to improve thinking ability, such as thinking ability, decision-making ability, problem analysis, mind map, etc.

Books to improve action ability, such as target management, time management, execution, procrastination psychology, etc.

Books to improve learning ability, such as how to learn, knowledge management, fast reading, how to take notes, etc.

Books to improve your speaking ability, such as the Bible of Speech, Speech is a technical activity, the power of speech, perfect eloquence, etc.

Books to improve writing ability, such as official document writing, copywriting, novel writing course, etc.

Expanding thinking books, if books improve thinking ability, can make us think things clearly. The book "Expanding Thinking" is an upgraded version of the former, which can change our thinking. For example, six thinking hats, innovative thinking.

Changing the concept of books means that after reading such books, you can change your concept, such as The Essence of Poverty, Poor Charlie's Collection, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and so on.

The book of developing potential, as the name implies, can make your potential abilities better displayed after reading this book, such as willpower, self-control, magical brain and so on.

?

The above not only classifies all books, but also introduces in detail the benefits that readers can bring after reading each type of books.

However, new problems appeared immediately. What kind of books should we start with to make our reading addictive from the beginning and get out of hand from now on? What books should I finish to make my knowledge system complete and my practical skills improve rapidly?

Mckinsey's Sandpile Rule gives the following suggestions: It includes not only the reading order, but also the types and quantities of books to be read (see Figure 1-4):

Why should we start by reading skill books? Because "if a worker wants to do a good job, he must sharpen his tools first." In other words, only by mastering certain reading skills can we get twice the result with half the effort when reading other books; Only when you gain knowledge and wisdom from books will you regard reading as a means of learning and stick to it.

There are two kinds of books about reading skills: one is reading methods; One way is to take notes. The corresponding book is How to Read a Book (Mortimer J. Ajdero et al.; Hao Ming translation) and "mind map" (by Tony Buzan; These two books (see figure 1-5).

Ironically, How to Read is not a very readable book, because it is a translated version, and the writing is not very smooth. So, we need to read it three times.

When reading for the first time, mark the book with a pencil, or write a comment in the blank according to your previous note-taking method. Then read page 46 (that is, seven ways to take notes) and page 164 (that is, the rules of reading 15) of this book repeatedly until you fully understand it.

Then read it a second time. In this process, you should erase the incorrect marks and comments with an eraser and re-mark them with a new method.

The third reading is a flip. In this link, you must sort out your reading notes. There are three kinds of reading notes in total: one is wonderful content notes, that is, looking through the content marked by yourself and copying the words that you think are wonderful content in your notebook. One is enlightening thought notes, that is, some ideas in the book, which bring great inspiration to yourself and write down your reading experience in the book. Therefore, it is an enlightening thought note to copy the ideas in the book together with your own reading experience in your notebook. One is the whole structure note, that is, drawing the structure of the whole book with the help of mind map. As for how to do mind mapping? After reading the mind map (Tony Buzan, etc.; You will naturally draw this book. However, I don't recommend readers to use hand-drawn form, because it is a bit troublesome and a waste of time.

When you have mastered certain reading skills and note-taking skills, you can start reading some professional basic books related to your work. But be careful, you can't rush to read too professional books at this time! Otherwise, you will feel depressed.

Since we have talked about professional basic books, let's take a profession as a case, because in this way, we will be more intuitive and easier to understand. As for what career to choose? Just choose a consultant in the consulting industry, because I know this industry better.

As mentioned above, professional basic books include teaching materials and monographs. Therefore, consultants should read these two books first (see figure 1-6). One is "Enterprise Management Consulting and Diagnosis" written by Professor Wu Zhongpei. This book can let you know what areas business consulting can be roughly divided into. One is "Perfect Consultation: A Consultant's Bible" written by consultant Brock. This book can let you know the specific process and steps of consultation.

After reading two professional basic books, we went on to read professional module books. For consultants, there are five skills that need to be improved most. Therefore, here are five books that can enhance our actual combat experience (see figure 1-7).

First, the ability of demand research. If you want to be an excellent consultant, you must have strong demand investigation ability. Therefore, the consultant should read the book "Smart People Use Checked Notebooks" written by Gao Qiao's political history. The main content of this book is to tell the consultant how to filter out the key questions and organize them into high-quality notes in the process of listening to customers.

Second, the ability of problem analysis. When the problems faced by customers are clear, the next job is to analyze the causes of these problems in detail. Therefore, the consultant should read "McKinsey Institute: McKinsey Method" (by Eisen Russell; Zhang Weiwei translation) This book has a "5why analysis method", which is very useful.

Third, the ability of scheme design. After carefully analyzing the problems existing in customers, it is necessary to make a plan. Therefore, consultants must read The Golden Pagoda Principle: The Logic of Thinking, Expressing and Solving Problems (by barbara minto; Translated by Wang Erdeng. ) This book. Because after reading this book, the scheme we wrote is logical and convincing.

Fourth, the ability to demonstrate the scheme. Sometimes, the design scheme needs to be displayed and explained to customers in the form of PPT. Therefore, consultants should also read "Talking with Charts: McKinsey's Complete Toolbox for Business Communication" (by Keane zelazny; This book, because this book will teach us to make PPT beautiful and logical.

Fifth, the ability to explain the plan. Consultants need to explain when presenting the consulting plan (PPT form). Therefore, in order to improve their speaking ability, consultants need to watch The Art of Speaking (Chinese version with CD-ROM) (by Steven E. Lucas; This book. Although this book tends to be theoretical, it is still helpful to consultants.

When we read professional module books from professional basic books, it seems that there is no book to read and there is no way to go. Therefore, at this time, in order to make one's studies "further", one must broaden one's knowledge and read professional related books (see figure 1-8).

Because the motif of consulting management is management, as a consultant, it is necessary to read the book "Effective Managers" (by peter drucker) written by the veteran of the consulting industry.

In addition, the discipline closely related to consulting management is strategic management, so we should also read books in this field, such as Competitive Strategy (by Michael Porter; Chen Lifang), "Positioning: The War of Users' Mind" (Jack Trout waits; Translated by huo Huaqiang, etc. ), blue ocean strategy extended version: beyond industrial competition, create a new market (W. Qian Jin, etc.; Jimmy) and so on.

After reading professional related books, in order to broaden their knowledge, we should continue to read general knowledge books.

General education involves philosophy, economy, management, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, art and so on. But for consultants, it is enough to know only five aspects: philosophy, economics, management, psychology and history. So the books to be read are as follows (see figure 1-9, figure 1- 10):

History of China's Philosophy (Volume I and Volume II) (by Feng Youlan);

History of Western Philosophy (Volume I and Volume II) (by Russell);

Principles of Economics Microeconomics Volume+Macroeconomics Volume (2nd Edition) (by Man Kun; Beam, etc.);

Corporate finance (original book number (by Stephen A. Ross, etc.). ); Wu Shinong, etc.)

Management (version 13) (waiting for Stephen Robbins);

Human resource management (version 14) (by gary dessler; Liu Wei translation);

Marketing management (15 edition) (philip kotler, etc.; He Jia News, etc.);

General Psychology in zimbardo (7th Edition) (philip zimbardo et al. ); Qian Jing et al.);

Social Psychology: Social Animals in aronson's Eyes (8th Edition) ([America] elliot aronson and others; Hou Yubo et al.);

"A General History of the World from Prehistory to 2 1 century (Volume I of the 7th revised Chinese version)" (by Stavri Anoos; Wu et al).

Note: As mentioned above, comprehensive knowledge books refer to introductory books of a certain subject. However, in order to improve our status, here, we use the subject overview book instead of the subject introduction book.

The last book to read is the book "Changing Mental Mode", and two books are worth reading (see figure1-1).

Six thinking hats (Edward debono; Translated by Ma Rui);

Seven Habits of Efficient People (Stephen Covey; Advanced. ).
