Where does the water from Jiangang Reservoir in Zhengzhou come from?

The water source of Jiangang Reservoir in Zhengzhou comes from Huaihe River. The reservoir controls the watershed area of 1 13 square kilometers, which is located in the hilly area in front of Songshan Mountain. The natural terrain inclines from southwest to northeast, with an altitude of 150-500m and a ground slope of 1/300- 1/400. The topography in the basin belongs to "cut accumulation topography". Due to intense erosion, rocks on hillsides and hilltops are exposed, vegetation is scarce, and soil erosion is serious.

Construction of Jiangang Reservoir started on 1959, and stopped on 1960 for various reasons. 1965, the design institute of Henan Provincial Water Resources Department surveyed Jiangang Reservoir again, re-planned the design, 1969 continued the construction. The dam at 1970 blocks the river for water storage. During the period of 1975- 1988, the projects such as seepage guiding and decompression corridor behind the dam, main spillway, emergency spillway and seismic reinforcement of reservoir dam were completed. The main works of the reservoir mainly include dam, spillway, water conveyance tunnel and emergency spillway.
