I’m delivering food in Dubai and picking up stories at the same time

In the first half of this year, I suddenly made a wish: How cool would it be if I could drive Xiaohong on every road in the United Arab Emirates.

Perhaps in order to realize this wish that suddenly appeared, I became associated with food delivery. I deliver food in Dubai, so you must have a dream, otherwise how can you realize it?

Getting involved in food delivery is actually a good way to get to know the city. It turns out that there are actually many Chinese people hiding in the places I passed by inadvertently. They are in hotels, villas, deserts, factories, Gao Gao There are shadows of our compatriots in the big and small buildings.

These days, in addition to becoming more and more familiar with International City, I have also become familiar with the business bay route. I have seen the Burj Khalifa standing still in the foggy weather many times, and I have walked back and forth from its base many times; I have been to factories and airports in the south of Dubai along the E311; I have seen the half-way hillside at Festival Eara. Castle Hotel; I have been in and out of small villas on the coastline of Palm Jumeirah; I have delivered goods to the entrance of Phoenix in Las Vegas; I have also gone to the warehouse in the industrial area to pick up goods...

In short, these are all things I have done before Places I haven’t been to. It turns out that delivering food is such a beautiful thing. You can boldly go in and out of many places. Although I am just a food delivery person, I actually feel confident.

Delivering food is a job that requires little interaction with people. As long as the food can be delivered on time, it is good. So the few interactions I had with people every day left a deep impression on me. I saw other people talking about picking up gold in Dubai, so I probably told stories about picking up gold in Dubai.

The one who impressed me the most was a girl. I don’t know if it was fate. I delivered takeaways to her 4 times one after another. Each time she ordered a lot of food, ranging from 300 to 500 dh. For a meal, the shipping fee for one trip is 35. Calculating, I have to make 10 trips to afford one meal, but I definitely can’t bear to spend the money for 10 trips.

Once I delivered food to a company. Because I couldn't find a parking place, I entered the underground parking garage. The security guard asked me why I was there and told me that I would be given five minutes at most and that I must drive away and not stop. Five minutes later, the brother who picked up the courier hadn't come yet, so I had to drive out. At the exit, he came, counted the money to me quickly, took the courier and ran away. Because the amount was relatively large, I counted it twice and found that it was missing by 50 Dh, so I quickly called him to tell him that the payment was missing. After all, the shipping fee is not even 50. But I called several times in succession, but he didn't answer. I blocked the exit again, and the security guard told me not to stop here. I kept apologizing, and he said: It's ok, I totally understand.

Being understood is a happy thing.

When I went around, I discovered that there was a place to park 10 meters ahead. The guy who picked up the courier just checked his phone and called me back. So happy. He gave me the difference of 50 yuan. I said it was because I didn't see it clearly just now, and I was afraid that you would misunderstand that I wanted more from you. He said that he knew how much money he had in his hand, and he found that there was indeed a lot left in his hand.

This is counting the money in person without counting it. My brain sometimes doesn't work very well. Once there was a box of medicine for 450 Dh. When he was picking it up, he asked me how much it was. I said 400 and he happily took the medicine away. As I was driving back, I suddenly thought that I had missed 50, so I drove back again. Everyone was very nice and gave me the money without saying anything.

I am really worried about my math ability. I was used to swiping cards, but suddenly it turned into cash. I was in a hurry. I just memorized the number in my head, but forgot it the next second. My brain was not clear at all.

I also met an uncle who gave me an extra 10 cents. I said I had some change and could change it, but he waved his hand and said, stop looking for it, I don’t want it. Sometimes there are buddies who don’t want steel bungees worth one or two cents, and it’s hard to let them go. In fact, I have stored most of the mineral water bottles and steel bungees in my car, which cost about 100 dikes, and it is difficult to spend them all.

Once I was waiting for someone to pick up a package while flashing double flashes on the roadside. There was a car parked in front of me. I don’t know which country the elder brother was from. He flashed double flashes and opened the window, and he was in the car. Waiting outside, he probably wants to pick someone up. The weather was over 40 degrees, so he took a towel to wipe off the sweat. After a while, I checked the time and rolled up the window again. I guess I turned on the air conditioner in the car to cool it down. It would be more comfortable for the passengers in the car after a while.

If nothing else, the service in Dubai is really attentive.

He saw that I was delivering food and asked me if he could have the business card of our restaurant. He also wanted to eat Chinese food sometimes. I left his phone number and said I would recommend some to him later. Then I told him everything I knew about International City. He said too much. Next time he goes to the store, if he doesn't know which one to order, he should ask me for help.

Maybe I am becoming more and more stylish in delivering food. Once when I was picking up cakes in a store, the boss saw that I was a woman and asked me if I wanted to stay in their store as a driver. They happened to be short of a driver. Um? It seems that I have great potential, and I actually feel that I am qualified for the position of full-time driver.

(My colleague: the tightly wrapped Talabat delivery boy)

Once I went to the pharmacy to pick up medicine. The boss asked me if anyone I knew was looking for a job. She said she If you want to recruit a salesperson, as long as you can speak Chinese and recognize Chinese characters, there are no other requirements. I can also occasionally play a guest role to help introduce the work.

Don’t mention it, there are so many people looking for jobs. Since I posted a little red book about food delivery, many people have sent me private messages to ask if they can deliver food with me.

This is the first time I know that food delivery is such a hot topic and so popular. It's a pity that I don't run this food delivery platform, and the boss can't ask for so many drivers.

Two of them talked more.

The story of a young lady is rather tortuous. She used to work in a Chinese supermarket, but later she moved to another one. The boss gave her a salary of 2X00D including food and accommodation during the probationary period, and 3X00D after becoming a regular employee. However, because of the lack of living The place was far away from work, so she spent another 1,500 dir to rent the boss's car. After working for three months, I didn't get a single cent of my salary, and my boss said she hadn't even passed her probation period.

She wanted to leave her job and find another job, but her boss asked her to work for a few more days until he hired someone. So, she heard that food delivery was paid on a daily basis, and she thought it would be good to work hard and see money every day.

(I just added the picture, it has little to do with the picture and text at this moment)

Another little brother was deceived into gambling. After working for a few days, he really didn’t want to do it. , lost money and escaped, but the expensive air tickets and various tests that were super difficult to meet the standards trapped him in Dubai. He said he was unfamiliar with the place and could he let me help introduce him to the food delivery job. He said that he had delivered goods to Meituan before and had experienced hot weather. He could endure any hardship, but he just missed the chance.

After giving him the pharmacy recruitment information, he asked me to continue to help him pay attention because he didn’t know anything about medicine. Later, I saw a restaurant recruitment in my circle of friends and pushed my contact information to him. He repeatedly confirmed with me whether the restaurant really existed, saying that he didn't dare to trust others now because he was afraid of being cheated. Today he successfully visited the restaurant and told me that the boss has gone to rent an apartment. I hope his employment goes smoothly. 4,000 Dh includes food and accommodation. It's better to have something to do than to sit back and have nothing.

(Talabat delivery person, but I just noticed a sports car next to me?)

Once I went to the warehouse to pick up goods for delivery. It was packed in two nylon bags, which looked a bit child weight. I gave it to a sister. When she was picking up the things, she said distressedly: "They couldn't bear to let such a little girl deliver the goods." "Haha, I volunteered myself." Moreover, I am just small in stature, but I am not young at all. .

Maybe it’s because of my professional image. It seems that all the people who deliver food are men, so sometimes when I’m picking up food, the boss will compliment me on how awesome I am, and I’ll just “laugh at” the compliment and take it all seriously. Encouraged. But I always feel that when I am praised for delivering food, I feel a bit resentful. This heartache shows that everyone understands the sadness of the deliveryman. From another perspective, everyone is actually very tolerant.

This heartache has also affected other friends. One friend asked me to work with them during the summer vacation. They gave me 10,000 a month. I didn’t have to bask in the sun while the air conditioner was blowing. It was so tiring to run for takeout. ah. Thanks to her, I rejected her, saying that I would still like to bask in the sun. But I feel that there should be a lot of stories from them. I won’t pick up the stories myself, but just listen to what they tell them.

I also met a customer. He asked me what "flash delivery" was and how many people there were in our company. When he heard that I was a teacher, he asked me if I could teach him English. I told him my current level of English and he said it was more than enough to teach him.

Since we felt that we were about the same age, I asked my MHC children's shoes if I could go. He said he didn't want me to go.

Therefore, I recommended an English learning institution to that brother and asked him to contact him himself. Institutional learning may be more professional. Hahaha, I don’t want to make my family uneasy just to make money.

In short, it feels like I made some connections by mistake.

But I really don’t know about any particularly good English institutions in Dubai. If anyone knows, please tell me. Because the only one I know, I don’t like their boss. The boss doesn’t have the most basic courtesy (but for a nobody like me, others don’t need to be polite to me hahaha), but I feel that as a person in the education industry My boss lacks the most basic courtesy, which is a great pity, so I don’t want to introduce students to him.

Speaking of nobody, one must always have a nobody mentality.

One time I was so hungry that I went to eat Chongqing noodles at around three o’clock in the afternoon. I said I was super hungry and wanted three sides. The boss aunt is very kind and said that you will definitely be hungry if you come to eat after ordering this. Those few words of concern from her made me feel that the fatigue of the day was gone. There was a feeling of regret for seeing each other too late. After eating both sides in one breath, I actually felt that I could still have some.

So a few days later, I went to their house to eat noodles again. I said hello to my aunt with a cheerful face, but she didn't remember me. To be honest, I was quite disappointed. I thought it was old friends at first sight, but in fact it was just a one-sided relationship.

But two days ago I met the boss who gave me my first order, the boss who wished me a fortune on my first day at work. Someone bought a few buns from him and asked me to I'll send it over. Obviously, he still remembered me and asked me if I kept ordering every day and was very busy.

Life is so magical. After delivering so many takeaways, I actually don’t remember many of them, and few of them are particularly impressive. I glanced at them briefly, and we didn’t spend more than one minute together, and we said goodbye in a few words.

If life were just like the first time we met, it would be great.

You can’t imagine the city’s fireworks in the room. You can wander aimlessly through high-rise buildings, and you won’t know whether those who come in and out have a Chinese stomach. Although it doesn’t matter whether they have Chinese stomachs or not, if you are lucky enough to pull the strings and solve an urgent need in the process, it feels like you are doing a good deed.

I think order-based services like food delivery are very good. There is no need to establish a sticky and long-term service relationship. I deliver the things reliably, and you pick them up on time. The service is over in just one session, efficient and hassle-free.

Of course, there needs to be a platform endorsement behind this and mutual trust. This kind of business between strangers relies on mutual trust and everyone keeps their word. Reliability is a precious sword in the world.

Oops, today’s story is a bit long and I haven’t finished it yet. Let’s talk about it next time.
