Young chess players from 49 registration units from 11 provinces across the country will compete here for 5 days. Yiyuan County is known as the "Roof of Shandong" because of the highest average altitude in the province. The Yi River, the largest river in Shandong, also originates here. The majestic mountains and rivers help the battle of wisdom, and chess rookies set sail from Yiyuan.

The Rookie Competition is hosted by the China Chess Association, under the full guidance of the Shandong Provincial Chess Sports Association, Zibo Sports Bureau and Zibo Sports Federation, and under the guidance of the Yiyuan County People's Government, Shandong Qilu Evening News Chess Academy and Shandong Qilu Chess and Card Sports Organized by Development Co., Ltd., co-organized by Yiyuan County Education and Sports Bureau, Zibo Chess Association, Yiyuan County Chess Association, and Yiyuan Kaiyu Chess Club, with special support from Shandong Luyang Energy Saving Materials Co., Ltd.
