On November 11, 1958, the Suzhou Commissioner's Office issued the "Notice on the Establishment of the Suzhou Regional Meteorological Observatory" (Zhuan Shuihuang (58) Zi No. 311), and the Suzhou Regional Meteorological Observatory was officially established. By the end of 1958, all counties under the jurisdiction of Suzhou had established weather stations, and meteorological operations officially started on January 1, 1959. In December 1959, the Meteorological Bureau of the Suzhou Commissioner's Office was established, under the leadership of the Suzhou Commissioner's Office and the Jiangsu Provincial Meteorological Bureau. On June 1, 1960, the Suzhou Regional Meteorological Observatory was renamed the Suzhou Regional Meteorological Service Station, and the Suzhou Commissioner's Office Meteorological Bureau was abolished. In January 1963, it moved to the southeast corner of Xiangmen Bridge outside the ancient city of Suzhou. In January 1965, it moved to the outskirts of the ancient city of Loumen (now: No. 99 Sanxing Road, Pingjiang District). On May 1, 1971, the Suzhou District Meteorological Service Station was renamed the Suzhou Regional Meteorological Observatory. It was under the dual leadership of the Suzhou Military Division and the Suzhou Regional Revolutionary Committee, with the Suzhou Military Division as the mainstay. In March 1973, it came under the leadership of the Suzhou Regional Revolutionary Committee. On November 26, 1980, the Suzhou Regional Administrative Meteorological Bureau was established. It is under the dual leadership of the higher-level meteorological authority and the people's government at the same level, with the higher-level meteorological authority as the main body, and it is clear that the bureau and station will be integrated into one. It has jurisdiction over 8 county-level weather stations including Changshu, Wuxian, Wujiang, Kunshan, Taicang, Shazhou, Wuxi and Jiangyin. On July 1, 1981, the Dongshan Weather Station was added. In March 1983, the Suzhou Regional Meteorological Bureau was renamed the Suzhou Meteorological Bureau, and the Suzhou Regional Meteorological Observatory was renamed the Suzhou Meteorological Observatory. It has jurisdiction over 7 county-level weather stations including Changshu, Shazhou, Taicang, Kunshan, Wuxian, Wujiang and Dongshan. In February 1999, the Suzhou Meteorological Bureau moved to No. 1288 Moxie Road, Pingjiang District (formerly known as No. 188 Sanxing Road, No. 108 Meteorological Road). In December 2001, the Suzhou Meteorological Bureau was directly affiliated with three institutions: Suzhou Meteorological Observatory, Suzhou Professional Meteorological Observatory, and Suzhou Lightning Protection Center; under its jurisdiction were Changshu Meteorological Bureau, Zhangjiagang Meteorological Bureau, Kunshan Meteorological Bureau, and Taicang Meteorological Bureau. Bureau, Wujiang Meteorological Bureau, Suzhou Wuzhong District Meteorological Bureau and other 6 county-level meteorological bureaus (stations) and Dongshan Meteorological Station in Wuzhong District, Suzhou City. In 2004, the Xiangcheng District Meteorological Bureau of Suzhou City was added. On November 5, 2007, the Suzhou Meteorological Bureau moved to No. 8 Jiayuan Road, Xiangcheng District.
