Tianjin Art Vocational College was established in 2002. It is a public full-time art vocational college approved by Tianjin Municipal Government and filed by the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was Tianjin Art School (formerly Tianjin Opera School) with a history of 64 years, which was rated as "National Key Art Secondary School" by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, and China Northern Quyi School directly under the Ministry of Culture with a history of 34 years. It is the only professional school in China that trains Quyi performers. Adhering to the direction of running a socialist school, aiming at inheriting and developing Chinese excellent traditional culture and arts and serving the development strategy of Tianjin as a culturally strong city, taking the social demand as the guidance, taking the development road of combining Industry-University-Research, and striving to cultivate a large number of qualified builders and reliable successors for the cause of socialist culture and arts.

The college takes traditional art majors such as drama and Quyi as the backbone, music and dance as the support, and cultural industry service majors such as stage technology, cultural relics restoration and protection, and preschool art education as the auxiliary. At present, there are eight teaching departments, including drama department, folk art department, music department, dance department, cultural industry management department, preschool art education department, dance art technology department and ideological and political education department. Opera performance, Quyi performance, and cultural relic identification and restoration were awarded the National Vocational College National Cultural Heritage and Innovation Demonstration Specialty by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission.
