Designated eligible family members (AEFM): Individuals who meet all the following criteria are regarded as AEFM in employment:

(1) is an American citizen;

(2) Being the spouse or cohabiting partner of the employee (as defined in 3fam1610);

(3) Not included in any of the following:

(a) Travel orders of sponsored employees sent to American missions or AIT offices (not TDY), or

(b) Approved-126 Report Form on Residence and Dependence of Diplomats (or equivalent documents from other institutions), in which the sponsoring employee is assigned to a (non-TDY) American mission or AIT office and lives in the overseas work place of the sponsoring employee;

(4) No US government pension or pension has been obtained from the US diplomatic service or civil service.

(5) Not an ordinary person or a diplomatic expert on paid leave;

(six) civil servants who are not qualified for re-employment in institutions or bureaus.
