The Social Status of Kunqu Opera in Guiyang

Kunqu opera has been included in the intangible cultural heritage.

Guiyang Kunqu Opera is one of the national intangible cultural heritages in China and one of the provincial intangible cultural heritages in Hunan. In history, Kunqu Opera in Guiyang was all the rage, which influenced many operas such as xiang opera, Sichuan Opera and Yue Opera. However, in modern times, due to social changes, cultural shocks, market competition and other reasons, Guiyang Kunqu opera gradually declined and marginalized, facing the crisis of loss and extinction.

In order to protect and inherit the precious Kunqu cultural heritage in Guiyang, in recent years, Guiyang county government and relevant departments have taken a series of measures, such as setting up special funds, establishing protection institutions, conducting investigations and studies, compiling and publishing books, holding exhibitions, and cultivating talents for inheritance.
