How can you make your resume stand out among so many resumes?
An excellent resume is the starting point for your success, but how should you write an excellent resume?
Step 1: Organize your experience
Functional resume – emphasize skills, qualifications, and achievements. It is suitable for the following situations: you have not worked for a long time, you have changed jobs frequently in the past and do not want to leave a bad impression on the recruiter, your work experience has been interrupted, and you are applying for a job across majors, but you have the relevant skills required for the position you are applying for.
Chronological resume - records the positions you have held in reverse chronological order. Suitable for fresh graduates or those who have never stopped working.
Step 2: Classify your achievements
When writing a chronological resume, you should focus on summarizing your experience, education, and skills. HR staff and your employer will scan your resume, so it must be highlighted and divided into concise, relevant sections.
If you have no work experience yet because you just graduated, put your education first. Include some basic aspects such as university name, bachelor's degree, and graduation date. Of course, it also includes relevant courses you have taken, honors or awards you have received, etc.
Other categories include relevant work experience, volunteer experience, computer skills, published articles, activities participated in, language ability, etc.
Step 3: Format can make or break your resume
–Font: Whether you’re emailing, faxing, or mailing your resume, you should Make your font look comfortable and easy to read. Remember to choose an appropriate font size, preferably between point 9 and point 12.
– Format: Too many fonts, colors, and styles can distract readers. Simple bullet points best indicate your responsibilities and skills, and use bold and italics sparingly. Use formatting to highlight your accomplishments, not to distract from others.
Step 4: Content is king
–Action verbs: Use concise and powerful verbs to highlight your work experience and responsibilities instead of starting with a noun. For example: customer service representative. Assist customers, train and supervise 15 new employees, organize specialized sales activities.
– Numbers: It’s a good idea to use numbers or percentages on your resume to make accomplishments more convincing. For example: sales increased at a rate of RMB 100,000 per month for 6 months, and the turnover increased by 20% in the first year. Supervise a team of 10 people.
– Length: No one wants to read a lengthy resume. Delete unnecessary parts when you encounter them, leaving only the most relevant and impressive parts.
