Job Recruitment Website - Job information - Career Growth

Career Growth

Let's talk about the motivation and reasons for the birth of this article.

Reason 1

The job-hopping season has just been hot, and many colleagues around me are in a hurry to prepare resumes and portfolios.

So I have the opportunity to help many students read resumes and portfolios and make some suggestions.

However, whether it is a fresh student or a classmate who has worked for several years, there will be some repetitive problems. In this article, I want to share the methods and experiences I have summarized and learned about resume design over the years.

Reason 2

When doing resumes, many designers will focus on typesetting and color matching, and often struggle with some details, such as whether the icon size is appropriate and whether the sense of form is cool enough. And mistakenly think that this is the so-called "design thinking" to write a resume.

Reason 3

As a designer, I found that many colleagues ignored the importance of resume. It is generally believed that only portfolio is the way to prove one's strength.

Reason 4

Of course, some jobs are very stable. Little friends who don't intend to change jobs think that writing resumes is redundant and that they don't lack interview opportunities, so there is nothing to write.

It seems that everyone can write a resume. Open word, pull a template and fill in a bunch of work-related information. It's done.

But!

What does this remind you of? A bunch of product requirements documents, right?

So!

1. An ordinary resume can help you win an interview, but a super-experience resume with design thinking can help us get a position.

2. During the interview, an experienced resume can guide the interviewer to ask us questions and send subtopics everywhere, while a poorly written resume is full of propositions.

Conclusion: If your resume is a product, do you want it to be just a "usable" product, or a "satisfying emotional response" and "exceeding expectations" product?

In a limited space, use structured writing to prove value, attract interest, eliminate concerns and win competition.

Since the title of the article is "writing a resume with design thinking", we regard the resume as our own design product. Let's first analyze who the audience is, and what their behavior, environment, purpose and media are.

People, behavior, environment, purpose and media.

1. For whom?

Human resources/team leader

2. Behavior and goals

HR: The average time to screen resumes is 8- 10 second. The goal is to screen candidates who can participate in the interview and meet the basic needs of the company.

Team leader: It may take a little longer, 15-30 seconds; The goal is to determine whether the candidate has the ability required by the team and can play a key role through the resume.

3. Where can I see it?

In a noisy office, you will have to stop reading your resume at any time.

4. What do you see?

For them, I want you to convey two things clearly: what kind of person I am and what kind of things I can do.

5. What are you thinking?

Generally speaking, before presenting your resume to the department design leader, you need to go through HR screening (except direct push), and generally use conventional file software to open it: PDF viewer, WPS software, etc.

Five steps: 1. Determine goal 2. Find focus 3. Highlight key points 4. Polish expression 5. Adjust the layout.

Two principles: clear structure and prominent focus.

Where should you send your resume? First, screen your target company.

Therefore, the first thing to write a resume is not to open a word document, but to browse your target companies on the Internet, lock in the companies you are interested in, find specific positions, and take the corporate culture value orientation of the company as the keynote of your resume.

Let the recruiter see at a glance: Oh! ! This job seeker is the perfect candidate for the company and corporate culture!

How to do it:

A. analyze the JD of the enterprise. By carefully reading the job description and qualifications, analyze what the ideal candidate for this position is and what kind of ability, attitude, qualifications and resources are needed.

The following is what I found on a recruitment website about job introduction and company introduction.

Where does the emphasis come from: your project experience, and achievement stories related to your personal abilities and advantages (the achievement stories are not detailed in this article, but will be detailed in subsequent updates).

Extraction method: star rule (star rule is the abbreviation of situation, task, action and result, if you don't know, ask your mother yourself).

Objective: To increase the space for key points, increase the perspective for highlights, and firmly lock the interviewer's attention in our home court. Advantages: This way can improve the browsing efficiency of hr, and you can quickly see whether you are the target candidate from the voluminous resumes.

Highlight important information points in your resume, do not miss substantive content, and delete invalid information unrelated to the position.

A. Highlight the necessary information

How to choose a resume photo:

* 1. Clothing is simple, decent and not too casual.

* 2. The expression is natural, and girls should not wear heavy makeup. It would be better if there is a photo with a soft expression and a smile, and an affinity resume photo is also one of the elements of the experience (the photo on the left in the picture below is criticized by friends: it is too domineering and the empress is too aggressive, which will stimulate the viewer's preparedness; So I changed the natural WeChat photo on the right and really liked it. )

* 3. The photo should not be too different from your own, and it is best to take a recent photo. Don't worry, the most dazzling style of killing Matt in college is coming. I really don't like taking selfies. Professional photo studios like Haima Tianzhenlan will help you shoot the most beautiful new heights in minutes. Although the price is not cheap, it is still very practical.

* 4. Try to choose positive photos or positive photos, and it is best not to put full-body or full-face photos, and the background should be solid.

* It is recommended to write your contact information in the most eye-catching position on your resume so that recruiters can contact you quickly under any circumstances.

How to describe academic qualifications;

* School, education and major. Education is more important for fresh graduates or designers who have just graduated 1-3 years. Many companies have some rigid requirements.

* For an experienced designer who has worked for 5- 10 years, your project ability and practical experience are more important. In other words, the more experienced a designer is, the smaller the ratio of academic qualifications to whether or not to hire you. Only junior college students apply for senior management or manager level, so it is not recommended to put academic qualifications first.

How to describe work experience;

* Company name, working hours, job responsibilities, related projects, performance (quantifiable), etc ... This part is the most important part of the resume.

* module clearly and logically, let the other party quickly grasp the main points. Because there is no primary and secondary, it is too verbose, and people have no desire to read.

* Describe the structure of work experience: 1. Job responsibilities+job performance (for jobs with relatively specific positions and performance) 2. Job responsibilities+work performance (including project achievements, personal honor, etc.). Note: enterprises that are too small and informal can do without introducing their background.

* The way to describe work experience: refine the subtitle; 1. It is in line with functions and posts, accurate in content and complete in scope. 2. Start from the most important work module. (not refined) 3. Read the job application and JD's job description on the recruitment website, and refine the summary. When refining, it must be consistent with the actual work.

* Job performance description and related quantitative indicators: 1. Use Arabic numerals as much as possible to highlight quantitative data (such as four years of experience as a user experience designer). 2. Make the scale data as transparent and specific as possible (don't include vague descriptions, such as the conversion rate increased by 34%). 3. Use the percentage of year-on-year data to increase or decrease as much as possible, such as increasing 1 10,000. For example, marketing costs have dropped by 20%.

How to describe the project experience;

1. The first line includes: start and end time, project title and project location.

2. Contents include: project introduction, project responsibilities, project difficulties and project performance.

How to describe self-evaluation emphatically;

1 Truth: We should proceed from the objective reality and make an objective evaluation of our work and life experience, and there must be no false elements, such as exaggerating our abilities, advantages or work experience.

Full of true feelings: write down your uniqueness, specialty and personality characteristics, and be sure to write down where you are different from others.

3 related to competence: the description of one's own advantages is closely related to the job position as far as possible. Refine and classify your personal skills and important work experience, and choose the skills and qualities needed for the target position to help you stand out.

Taboo: avoid using empty and old-fashioned words, or being too popular, and avoid describing shortcomings.

Not too complicated and not too much. If you can write one line, don't write two.

B. Weakening secondary information

Weakening non-core content is also a way to highlight important information. For example: hobbies, what awards have you won in school, what talents you have, etc …

Weaken hobbies: Of course, as a designer, loving photography, music, handicrafts and travel shows that you have better taste and love life, which can increase the interviewer's comprehensive understanding of you, but these contents can be slightly weakened. During the interview, if the interviewer is interested in this, you can start talking.

Weakening school rewards: If you are a fresh graduate, it may be a highlight of your ability, but if you are a worker who has graduated for many years, you'd better write a certificate with high gold content related to your major. For example, your job is as a user experience designer, but you won a prize in a poetry reading contest in your freshman year, you know. These are only of reference value or can only be used as extra points, and will not play a decisive role.

Please believe that the priority of these contents is not so high, and putting them in a relatively low position will not affect your probability of receiving an interview notice.

C. deleting spam

Generally, it is best to control your resume to A4 pages, with two pages at most. In the case of limited space, information that has little relevance to the job or can't help recruiters to make judgments can be directly discarded (learn to do subtraction).

For example: home address, party member, height and weight, clubs you have joined, percentage of professional skills (PS skills 80%, AI skills 60%), etc. In the description of skills, it is not recommended to express your skill mastery in the form of percentage. It is suggested to express it in the description of proficiency, proficiency, familiarity and basic mastery.

The fourth step is to continue to optimize your work experience and project experience. In the star structure, the language of each element is polished and compared.

A well-structured resume can show that you have an advantage and do well.

But polished and conflicting methods can show that you are better and more advantageous than others.

Continue to polish with star gauge as the main task;

Polishing from s background: reflecting the importance

-Is your department the core or the periphery?

-Are you a strategic project or a regular project?

-Is the problem you solved a key problem or an anodyne problem?

Polishing task: emphasize the challenge

Technology: rendering

From what aspects: time, cost, scope and quality (12)

Time is tight, tasks are heavy, resources are few, and requirements are high (if the leader often gives you such projects to do, it means that your ability is valued by him; If you happen to succeed again, then you are really great! )

Polishing from action A: emphasizing systematicness, scientificity and professionalism.

Systematization: Where did your decision come from? Is it based on systematic research or patting your head yourself?

Science: How did your final plan come about? Based on scientific data analysis or just blind?

Professionalism: Do you use professional tools to analyze, or do you just draw conclusions based on "feelings"?

Polish r results: emphasize contrast.

Why compare the results? No comparison, no harm.

How to compare: than history, than peers, than expectations!

-Comparison of historical performance or results

-Compare colleagues with peers

Compared with your boss's expectations, if you can greatly exceed everyone's expectations in efficiency, cost, scope and quality, then you can completely surpass yourself.

1. Make a good first impression by using F visual model.

Use the law of twists and turns to create a perfect ending for your resume.

2. The law of peak termination

The way to make our resumes have a high experience end point is called the "peak-to-peak rule", which was put forward by Nobel Prize winner Daniel Kahneman. I believe many design partners will be familiar with it.

Do you think it is here?

No, the output format, I want to emphasize it again!

Prepare a resume in Word format and a +PDF.

1. Try to output a file in Word format or PDF format. Since your resume will be read not only by the designers in the employing department, but also by HR (the user group of resume), even in your portfolio, you still need to prepare a separate copy.

2.PDF format is to ensure that the formats and font styles opened on different devices can be unified. When you open the same Word file on some computers, there may be garbled codes or disordered sorting.

3. Resume content should be carried on A4 paper as far as possible, and HR will print it out in the follow-up interview (using scenarios).

1. Length control: It is best to control the resume to A4 pages, with a maximum of two pages.

2. Structured expression: The overall layout is clear and structured.

3. Clear objectives: According to the recruitment information released by the employer, clarify the intention or objectives of job hunting in the resume.

4. Highlight key points: highlight important information points in the resume, omit non-substantive content, and delete invalid information unrelated to the position.

5. Focus on advantages: highlight the key information of your own advantages. The more targeted your resume is, the easier it is to be favored. According to the requirements of enterprises and posts, combined with their own advantages, tailor-made production.

6. Keyword extraction: Key words should be highlighted in the resume (HR generally uses keyword search), and key words are nouns or verb phrases that describe actual work experience or performance. Speak with numbers.

7. Logical clarity: Resume must be in logical order, with clear hierarchy and obvious key information (marked in bold). A good resume can highlight the logical thinking ability of candidates.

8. Pay attention to details: put an end to details errors, such as typos and grammatical errors.

Finally, I hope this article can really help you solve the problems you encounter in your daily work. I wish readers and friends find their ideal jobs as soon as possible! !
