Gu 'an County is located in the northern part of North China Plain, with a width of 30 kilometers from east to west and a length of 39 kilometers from north to south, covering an area of 703 square kilometers. The whole territory belongs to Yongding River flood plain and alluvial plain, and the terrain is inclined from northwest to southeast. It is generally flat, with local hills and dunes in the north and a small area of low-lying land in the south-central part, with an altitude of 9.5-26.5 meters.

Gu 'an County is a region with good conditions for the development and utilization of geothermal resources in North China. Geothermal resources were discovered in petroleum geological exploration in 1970s, and the favorable mining areas are mainly distributed in Niutuo Town, with an area of about 120 square kilometers. The main thermal storage in this area is Jixian bedrock thermal storage, with a buried depth of 800- 1600 m, total geothermal resources reserves of 100386 billion joules, geothermal water reserves of 7.6 billion cubic meters, and the highest temperature of 88℃, which has the characteristics of large reserves, shallow burial, high temperature and good water quality.
