Particle mania review (Fang Ran)

Every time I watch a popular science documentary, I feel that this popular science documentary has brought me great inspiration. Today, I watched another science documentary called Particle Mania.

At the beginning, when Monica Dunford entered their control room (taking ultra-mild surface instrument experiments as a postdoctoral project), she was asked, "What kind of scientists are?" She replied, "The whole control room is like a group of six-year-old children whose birthdays will be celebrated next week. There are cakes and presents, and their good friends will come. " I think after her control room, her self-feeling is that everyone in it is optimistic because everyone will fail in the experiment. If you fail, you should face it with an optimistic attitude.

In this documentary, their main task is to build a "big wheel". What do they mean by "big wheel"? In fact, this "big wheel" is the Large Hadron Collider. This is the largest machine ever built by mankind, and it took nineteen years to build it. So what is the function of this large hadron collider? What is this for? Later, in their first experiment, they said: "It is to let two beams of particles collide and keep them for a period of time, so that we have enough time to calculate and get enough data to study new physical phenomena." They succeeded in the first test, but when they faced a new challenge (accelerating two beams of particles to a high energy state and then colliding them), this machine had a small accident: liquid helium leaked! They had to postpone the time until the end of the month, and they were very depressed because of this little accident. But later, through their efforts, they repaired the Large Hadron Collider and passed this new challenge. They proved to people that although they are just a group of little creatures with heads, they know the deep world. I admire them as a group of "little creatures". They use their "little brains" to explore mysteries and invent things that have never been created in history.

The passage at the end of this documentary is very touching: Why do we need science? Why do we need art? These seemingly unrelated things just define our meaning as human beings. This sentence lets us know that science and art are everywhere around us, so we should learn them. Only with these can we create things that people have never created before and explore mysteries better. ...
