Like most people, I have always felt that there is a lot of fraud when it comes to insurance, and I get tired of receiving phone calls selling insurance. But then I was shocked when I saw such recruitment conditions. I had the impression that most people working in insurance are unemployed...
Bachelor degree or above, with an annual income of more than 120,000 in the previous year... Such a person would Go for insurance? What’s even more bizarre is the requirement of “no life insurance sales experience”?
Curiosity aroused, so I quickly found Du Niang. Regarding insurance and MetLife, the Internet has mixed reviews and bad reviews. Then Baidu Metropolis Western Pastry Project, it turns out that it started in Hangzhou in 2011, and overall the reviews are good. Then I met Mr. C from Tianjin in Baidu Tieba, who was the Western Pastry Planning and Reserve Sales Office Manager (WAM) for 15 years. Mr. C was very enthusiastic and recommended Ms. J from Hangzhou to me. Ms. J is a beautiful woman. She was a WAM from the 2011 batch in Hangzhou and was helping to build the Ningbo branch.
In the mood of giving it a try, I had an interview with Ms. J on December 24, and the content was very casual. On the 25th, I attended Metlife’s business briefing at the Howard Johnson Plaza Ningbo Yidong. The lecture was given by Mr. H, the founder of Consulting Marketing of the Zhejiang Branch. About 4 to 500 people were invited to attend. This is the second briefing session. The first one was said to have attracted 2,300 people.
Mr. H’s speech was sincere and passionate. The following points impressed me deeply:
1. The insurance industry in China is in the early stage of rapid development. In terms of the insurance rate, Japan It is 650%, the United States is 400%, Taiwan is more than 200%, and the mainland is only 30%. And international experience shows that the process of the insurance rate from 40% to 140% is the golden period of rapid development of the insurance industry
2. MetLife’s strength and brand in the insurance industry are both leveraged. From Titanic to 9/11, MetLife has been actively involved in claims settlement and has received high praise from society. From Clinton to Bush to Obama to Trump, they all choose MetLife as the life insurance underwriter for more than 2.2 million employees of the federal government.
3. Two examples were given, namely Mr. Chen and Ms. Susan from the United States, to illustrate the protection that life insurance can bring to a family when risks come and the backbone of the family collapses.
4. Metropolis is different from traditional insurance companies: first, it adheres to the protection function of insurance, rather than selling some messy so-called financial products; second, it is customer-oriented and tailor-made insurance Products
5. West Point plans thirty months of life insurance training and provides an average monthly financial subsidy of 10,000 yuan, which is unique in the insurance industry.
Metropolitan is quite strict in the selection of WAMs
From the previous interviews and today’s career briefing, I generally feel that the quality and appearance of Metlife’s personnel are relatively high. It was Christmas day, and the staff prepared an apple gift box symbolizing peace for each participant.
After returning home, I scanned the QR code with my mobile phone and took the Beisen online assessment. There were more than 100 questions in total and it took less than half an hour to complete. Basically, I made choices based on instinct. , not much time to think.
I received a notice that night. Since I work out of town, I requested that the interview be scheduled on Monday or Friday as much as possible. The other party was very reasonable and the interview was scheduled for the morning of the 26th. The interviewer was a Taiwanese woman slightly older than me who was a sports reporter before joining the Met. The interview lasts about an hour and the process is skipped.
I received a notice on the 27th to attend the second interview the next day (looking at the MetLife interview process online, each step is about a week apart, I don’t know why Ningbo was in such a hurry this time), I proposed to do so on the 30th I was the last one to go to the interview at 17:20 on Friday afternoon.
The next person I met was Mr. O from the Ningbo branch. Maybe he interviewed too many people in one day. Mr. O looked a little tired. The main reason was that I asked some questions and he answered them. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. Within half an hour, I got the notice to go to Hangzhou for inspection and final round of interviews on January 5th and 6th (non-leadership group discussion).
I bit the bullet and asked for leave from the company. On the morning of the 5th, 70 or 80 candidates set off from Ningbo to Hangzhou in two buses. We dined at a hotel at noon, and Metlife carefully prepared Laba porridge for everyone. I went to the Hangzhou branch in the afternoon. At the Alipay Building, President H gave a welcome speech, and then invited three talented people from the Hangzhou branch to come on stage to share, or brainwash, haha. These three all had very successful careers before joining Metropolis. I remember one of them was the sales director of a health hall who graduated from Renmin University? One is the vice president of human resources of a real estate company who graduated from East China Normal University, and the other is also a sales elite. All in all, they have been very successful since joining Metropolis, earning more than one million a year. Of course, there were some twists and turns in the process, especially as the last person shared. His income in the previous three years was not as good as his previous job. The salary slips posted showed only a few dozen yuan in income in some months. However, it has exploded in the past two years, with revenue doubling several times.
Then there was a sumptuous welcome dinner, where employees from the Hangzhou branch had a casual chat with the Ningbo WAM candidates. After that, I checked into the hotel. In the hotel room, I received the first flowers in my life. Haha
From these details, I felt that Metlife is very attentive to its work and respects the candidates very much.
The next morning, Mr. O explained the offer, WAM’s training plan, income composition, etc. In short, he drew a big pie, ha. The first HA (leaderless group discussion interview) started at 11 o'clock, and was divided into three groups at the same time, with 8 to 9 people in each group.

I started the second game at 13 o'clock. The interview question in the morning was about a salesperson who repeatedly issued false invoices for banquets. His sales manager couldn’t stand it and didn’t want to sign. At the same time, they have a good relationship in private blahblah... What should you do if you are a consultant hired by the company? this matter. I didn't expect that this question would be asked again in the afternoon. I thought it was really strange, and I regretted not thinking about this issue in depth. The friends in our group were all great, and several of them were very organized in their analysis, especially the woman who made the concluding speech at the end.
We went back home in the afternoon. The pleasant 2-day study tour in Hangzhou was over, haha. Thank you to Metlife for their careful organization, and thank you to the two beauties Fangfang and Nana from the Ningbo branch for your hard work!
That evening, I received the offer notice from MetLife. MetLife is really very efficient. ah!

At this point, the interview process is over.
The company’s first training class will start at the Ningbo Sheraton Hotel on the 11th of this month. Since the work at hand cannot be handed over at the moment (I am responsible for the second phase expansion project of the current company and am organizing the bidding), it is very difficult. Unfortunately, I missed it and can only choose the second training session in March.
West Point plans a 30-month training cycle. The first month is life insurance business training and obtaining the agent qualification certificate, then various roleplays, and finally the customs clearance exam. Then there is the 6-month sales implementation period of PSM, and you must meet the company's performance assessment to receive financial subsidies. And I heard that 30,000 orders are required in the first week (that is, 3 orders a week), and the company also encourages everyone to set a 30,000-dollar record. Ms. C shared in Hangzhou has already done 30,000 orders in 80 weeks, which is really awesome. After 6 months, both sales and management were combined, and we began to form our own sales team. Once you reach a team of at least 4 sales managers and 9 life insurance planners, and achieve corresponding sales performance, you can be upgraded to the Sales Office Manager (AM). Of course, the pressure is also very high. I estimate that less than one-third of the first batch of WAMs can achieve AM.
After working in the chemical industry for 20 years, I slowly lost my passion for work. In 2017, I turned around, entered a new field, and accepted the challenge. I have worked hard in this world, and success or failure does not depend on me. I wish myself luckier the more I work hard!
