Jilin Metallurgical Research Institute was established in May 1958, and it belongs to Jilin Metallurgical Industry Bureau. At that time, the name was Jilin Metallurgical Industry Bureau Laboratory.

1962 Jilin Metallurgical Industry Bureau was renamed as Jilin Nonferrous Metals Industry Administration, and later renamed as Jilin Nonferrous Mine Experimental Research Institute.

1964 with the expansion of the work content, it was renamed Jilin Nonferrous Metals Research Institute.

1965 in order to meet the needs of the development of gold industry and concentrate on strengthening the research work of gold, the Ministry of Metallurgy has transferred professionals from the Gold Research Department of Liaoning and Heilongjiang Metallurgical Research Institutes.
