The school was founded in 1870 (that is, the ninth year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty) and was named Xianxin Primary School. For more than a hundred years, it was renamed repeatedly until 1996, when it was funded by the Shaw Foundation of Hong Kong, and the school was renamed as huangyan district Yifu Primary School (also known as Shabu Town Central Primary School).
