Hotel star rating follows the principle of voluntary declaration by enterprises.

A five-star hotel is the highest-level "star tourist hotel" (referred to as "star hotel"). The National Tourism Star Hotel Evaluation Committee established by the National Tourism Administration (hereinafter referred to as the "National Star Hotel Evaluation Committee") is responsible for the evaluation in accordance with the Classification and Evaluation of Star Hotels (GB/T 14308-20 10). By February 20 13, there were 758 five-star hotels in China.

After the hotel applies for a five-star rating, the local tourist hotel star rating agency will review the initial rating and report it to the National Star Rating Committee step by step, and the National Star Rating Committee will assign inspectors to conduct inspection and evaluation.
