Shanshan County is located in the east of Turpan Basin at the southern foot of East Tianshan Mountain, 280 kilometers west of Urumqi and 340 kilometers east of Hami. The terrain of the county is high in the northeast and low in the southwest, forming a gentle slope. Because the northern part is bounded by Tianshan Mountain, the mountain is high and steep, and the southern part is desert Gobi and hilly area, which is relatively flat. The highest peak in the mountainous area with higher terrain is 4110.7m, and the lowest is located in the east of Aiding Lake in Turpan, with an altitude of153m.
