What is the technological process of EAF steelmaking?

Previous methods (Phase III):

Repairing furnace → charging → melting period (divided into four stages: arc starting period → well crossing period → main melting period → powder temperature rising period → oxidation stage → reduction period → tapping).

Loading: scrap steel; You can also charge a small amount of molten iron, which is called hot charging molten iron.

Melting period: mainly the melting of scrap steel.

Oxidation stage: impurities, nitrogen, hydrogen, etc. Sulfur in molten steel is removed by ore oxidation or oxygen blowing.

Reduction period: slagging, mixing, etc.

Now commonly used: scrap preheating → oxygen melting period → tapping → refining.

Now the reduction period is generally operated in LF, which can shorten the smelting period and make the operation more convenient.

An electric furnace for smelting ores and metals with high temperature generated by electrode arc. When gas discharge forms an arc, the energy is concentrated, and the temperature in the arc zone is above 3000℃. For molten metal, EAF is more flexible than other steelmaking furnaces, and can effectively remove impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus. The furnace temperature is easy to control, and the equipment occupies a small area, which is suitable for melting high-quality alloy steel.
