On April 1, 1943, after seven years of arduous preparations, Wujin County Hospital (the predecessor of Changzhou Second People’s Hospital) was officially established. It was the first public hospital in Wujin County. When the hospital was first established, it had 50 beds. The only medical equipment was a 15mA There are 5 doctors from Shanghai and Suzhou, including internal medicine, ophthalmology, surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology, as well as 6-7 head nurses and nurses. At the same time, a nursing school was established, enrolling 20 nursing students and a total of 52 administrative staff. The hospital has departments of internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and ophthalmology. The diseases treated are relatively simple. The surgery department can perform lower abdominal surgery, the internal medicine department can perform artificial pneumothorax, etc., and the obstetrics and gynecology department can perform forceps-assisted delivery and other difficult labor surgeries.

In 1945, after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the hospital was renamed Wujin Public Hospital.

On April 23, 1949, Changzhou was liberated and the hospital was renamed Changzhou People’s Hospital.

In August 1950, the hospital was renamed Sunan Public Changzhou Hospital.

In 1951, during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, rehabilitation hospitals were established in some cities in Jiangsu Province to treat wounded volunteers with chronic diseases. On July 16 of the same year, the first batch of more than 100 volunteers with chronic diseases and injuries were admitted to the hospital. On August 15, following the instructions of the Jiangsu Administrative Office, the hospital was officially renamed Changzhou Rehabilitation Hospital.

In February 1953, with the expansion of its scale, the hospital was placed under the leadership of the Rehabilitation Hospital Administration Bureau of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Health and renamed the Fifth Rehabilitation Hospital of Jiangsu Province.

In early 1956, the Fifth Rehabilitation Hospital of Jiangsu Province (the predecessor of the hospital) was transferred to the local government from the Rehabilitation Hospital Administration Bureau of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Health, under the leadership of the Changzhou Municipal People's Committee, and was renamed Changzhou Second People's Hospital. On March 2 of the same year, the Municipal People's Committee decided to merge the Municipal Workers' Hospital and the Second Hospital. On April 7, the merger procedures were officially completed. At that time, the hospital had 200 approved beds and 245 employees.

Just when the hospital was developing steadily, the turmoil of the "Cultural Revolution" brought a devastating blow to the hospital, and medical work came to a halt.

After the "Gang of Four" was smashed, especially after the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, various tasks sprung up and the hospital was full of vitality, and the hospital entered a period of rapid development.

In April 2013, the hospital celebrated its 70th anniversary.
