Pingtan Island, commonly referred to as Haitan Island, is the largest island in Fujian Province and the fifth largest island in China. It is located in the southeast coast of China, the main island of Pingtan, 28km away from Fuzhou/KLOC-0, and only 68km away from Hsinchu Port in Taiwan Province Province in the east, which is the closest place for Chinese mainland to Taiwan Province Province. The island is 29 kilometers long from north to south and 0/9 kilometers wide from east to west, covering an area of 274.3 square kilometers.

Haitan Island is high in the south, high in the north and low in the middle. The landform types are mainly hills, followed by plains and terraces.
