I successfully entered the interview experience of Unilever.
Unilever does campus recruitment online. I don't know whether Unilever's application form was designed by its own company or commissioned by a consulting company. There's a lot of content anyway. I spent the whole afternoon filling out the form-it can be said that it is the longest application form I have ever made.
The content of the application form includes personal information such as education, major, English level, and some subjective topics. For example, your understanding of Unilever MT project, your career development plan in the next few years and so on. Not long after the application was submitted, I received a written notice.
Later, I learned that many items in the application form can be scored, and the company selects them according to the scores. For example, band 4 score 1, band 6 score 2; Undergraduate students got 1 point, and master students got 2 points; Finally, according to the total score. Personally, I think this screening method is not particularly reasonable, because many subjective questions are difficult to score according to the answers.
The written test is very "Daxing"
On the written test day, there were not as many people as expected. About 100 people in Beijing were selected. I'm glad to win from countless applicants. The content and form of written examination are "thriving"-English reading plus mathematics. Like the written form of most foreign companies, the content is relatively close. The math problem is even the same as KPMG's. It happened that I also took the written test of KPMG, so the answer was very smooth.
It may be that the candidates in the written test have been strictly screened, so there are not many people selected in the written test, unlike HSBC. As far as I know, HSBC's written test screened out most people at once.
Interview from morning till night
The first round of interview is relatively simple and structured. The examiner asks very routine questions, such as the position applied for, personal advantages and disadvantages and so on. This kind of interview basically has a fixed pattern, and the examiner will score according to the answer to each question.
The second scene was held in Shanghai. Unilever's headquarters is in Shanghai, so the candidates who enter the second side are concentrated in Shanghai. The company arranged for me to fly from Beijing to Shanghai to have a second interview with candidates from universities all over the country. In our meeting, Unilever's two-sided form changed. In the past, they used the method of commercial camp. Set up a factory in groups of several people. The whole process will involve cost calculation, loan repayment, market planning, product promotion and so on. In the meantime, people in the company will play other roles and deliberately create problems. For example, an HR pretends to be a bank and raises interest rates; Play the role of a worker who asks for a raise. To test candidates' ability to cope with and solve problems.
On both sides of our conversation are simulated work scenes. Early in the morning, I got a lot of documents, including the production plan for the next quarter, the contents of emails for several days, the work plan and cost budget submitted by subordinates ... In short, my role is a production supervisor, and I am faced with the problems that a production supervisor needs to deal with in one day. I have two hours to look at these documents and think about how to deal with them. After that, I need to make a demonstration in English to explain how I handle these affairs, how to solve problems, how to implement steps and what kind of effect I want to achieve. Because of the rush of time and the problem of not touching, I feel that my expression is not smooth enough
Judging from my speech, the English level is clear at a glance. Examiners can judge whether I have the qualifications needed by Unilever according to the order in which I deal with problems, the ideas and methods of solving problems; Judge whether my value orientation and way of thinking meet the requirements of Unilever; See if I have potential and plasticity.
Next is a case discussion. We are divided into several groups, each with about 10 people. My group is discussing the launch of new products and how to promote them. Everyone gives ideas, discusses customer orientation, characteristics, analyzes product selling points, sales channels and so on, and then designs the scheme. Our group didn't make a very complete plan within the stipulated time. I think the reason why the company designed such an assessment link is not that we should give a perfect solution within the specified time, but that we should examine everyone's performance in this process. Because the performance of everyone in the team will be seen by the examiner who observes the whole process. What role have you played in the whole team, what suggestions have you made and whether they have been adopted can help the examiner to judge whether you have team spirit and reconfirm whether you have the qualifications and potential required by the company.
The first one is on three sides.
It is said that after case discussion, more than 60 people who entered the second side were brushed off by nearly half. At that time, the human resources manager informed me to enter Sanmian, and I didn't realize that I had become one of the few "survivors". To be honest, I don't think the presentation in the morning is very ideal, so I don't have much hope of being selected. When I learned that I wanted three sides, my first reaction was to hurry, which smacked of "early death and early rise".
I am from Shanghai, my home is in Shanghai, but I went to college in Beijing, so I flew from Beijing to Shanghai for an interview. At the end of the case discussion, it was near evening. I am eager to finish the interview soon, and then I can go home. In the evening, I have to catch a plane back to Beijing. Time was tight, so I asked HR, hoping that the interview would come first.
It doesn't matter to the company who comes first. When I first asked for an interview, HR agreed without asking me why. In this way, I became the first person to do three things. Three sides returned to the state of structured interview, of course, the examiner's level is much higher than one side. But the questions you ask are more routine-your understanding of the position you are applying for, your plans for future work, and so on. After speaking English all day, I have become more and more accustomed to it and expressed it more fluently. I left in a hurry as soon as the trilateral was over. That evening, I returned to Beijing.
The next day, I learned that Unilever had made some offers that night. In other words, after the trilateral meeting, someone was hired. I didn't receive it, so naturally I feel hopeless this time.
Then fly to Shanghai for an interview.
Just when I gave up completely, Unilever informed me that I would be given another interview because I applied for a position. When I applied, I filled in "market". However, all written tests and interviews are not treated differently according to the positions applied for. So I think the company examines the basic quality; I guess the result of the survey is that I am not particularly suitable for market jobs. Of course, this is just my guess.
Two weeks later, I flew to Shanghai to take an extra test. Of course, Unilever is very considerate of our students, and the round-trip travel expenses are borne by the company. I'm a little relieved that I'm not the only one who was given an extra round of interviews, and there are students from other universities. Or because the position is not suitable, or the company is not sure whether to hire or not. This cautious approach has increased my goodwill towards Unilever. Because they will not easily determine whether a talent is suitable or not, and they will never easily let go of a suitable talent.
The extra test is to meet the big boss. Three big bosses are interviewing at the same time, but they feel relaxed. Because they don't have any fixed questions and interview patterns, they just talk to you casually. Usually ask a few questions, and then I'll ask them. Shortly after the final interview, I got the Offer and became the MT of Unilever.
