Title: "The road is at your own feet"-Bao Biru, a laid-off female worker in Beijing, tells her story.

Liu Puquan Bi Fangfang

Bao Biru, 40, is a laid-off woman worker from Beijing Glass Factory No.5.. Before he was laid off, he served as a member of the workshop trade union, the head of the air compressor group and the head of the mold maintenance group. He was rated as an advanced worker, a young pacesetter and a "March 8" red flag bearer for many years.

After being laid off, she once "hid" at home and dared not see anyone, gaining five or six kilograms. After months of pain, she finally walked out of the house and regained her confidence. While knitting "Chinese knots" at home, she went to a restaurant as a "banquet wife" and re-knitted a beautiful life with hard-working hands. The following is Bao Biru's self-report:

1998 One day in June, at 2 am, I was working the night shift in the workshop. People in the factory informed us to stop production, and all over 3000 workers in the factory were laid off. I couldn't believe my ears at that time, but I had to accept the fact. My colleagues and I have no choice but to go to work.

Before that, there were reports of employees being laid off when the efficiency of the factory was deteriorating, but everyone told me, don't worry, even if the factory is reduced to 100, it won't reduce you, Bao Biru. Hearing this, I also think it makes sense. In the end, however, the truth was beyond my expectation.

Three months after I was laid off, I went to work regularly and suddenly fell into a life of doing nothing all day. I shut myself up at home, I am restless and restless, and I often lose my temper for no reason. Even my son is afraid to come near me. I was shocked when my son stood in front of me with a final exam report card in tears. My son's poor grades made me realize that his words and deeds affected his mood and physical and mental health, which led to a decline in his academic performance.

So, I calmed down and reflected deeply. With the development of market economy and the adjustment of economic structure in China, it is normal for enterprises to go bankrupt and workers to be laid off. Although I was laid off, it was not because I didn't work hard, nor because my technology was inferior to others, so there was nothing to hide. For the sake of my children, my family and myself, I can't be depressed any more. I want to go out of the house, find my self-confidence and shape a brand-new myself!

Because I have been engaged in maintenance work in the factory for a long time, I suffer from serious cervical and lumbar diseases. In addition, with the growth of age, I can no longer engage in manual labor, but I like handmade, especially interested in making handicrafts. At that time, handmade "Chinese knots" were popular in Beijing. So, according to a piece of information in the newspaper, I signed up for the "Elementary Class of Chinese Knot Art".

After class, in order to further improve my craft and weave more beautiful and distinctive "Chinese knots", I went all over the bookstores in Beijing, bought all the books about knitting "Chinese knots" and continued to teach myself at home. In this way, I took the rope and knitted it again and again according to the method in the book. I was often so tired that my back ached and my hands ground thick cocoons. However, I am so happy to watch my ever-changing "Chinese knot"! I decorate my home with Chinese knots and give them to my relatives and friends.

Almost everyone who has seen my craft says that my "Chinese knot" is better than that sold in the mall. This gave me the idea of letting my craft go to the market. Encouraged by my friends and family, I got up the courage to go out and sell my products in the morning market, roadside, overpass and other places. At that time, it was cold winter. Weave "Chinese knots" at home at night and stand on the street during the day to sell them to passers-by. My hands and feet are cold every day.

Once, a passer-by learned that all the "Chinese knots" I peddled were woven by himself and praised me: "Your" Chinese knots "are really well woven and cheap. You should go to shopping malls and small commodity markets to find counters to sell. There will be no problem. " Hearing this, I was very inspired: it is illegal to stand on the street to sell, and the sales area is too narrow. So, I went all over the city's shopping malls with handicraft counters and small commodity wholesale malls.

Although the work was very hard, and sometimes I was looked down upon and laughed at, I finally found several businesses to sell it on a commission basis. I cherish this hard-won opportunity very much and dare not neglect it at all. I write day and night according to the requirements of the merchants, and complete the task with good quality and quantity every time. Gradually, I won the trust of merchants, my products also opened the market, and my income increased accordingly. My monthly income can reach 1200 yuan, even more than I earned in the factory before I was laid off. At that time, I deeply realized the joy of realizing my own value.

"Bao Biru's Chinese knot is particularly good!" Such words gradually spread around me. When Soong Ching Ling's former residence reopened, there were some old palace lantern knots to be repaired and I was recommended. When I and the masters of the lamp factory repeatedly studied and produced this meaningful work, I strengthened my confidence in myself. At this time, many laid-off sisters also came to my house and wanted to learn to knit Chinese knots with me.

I am also a laid-off woman worker, and I have a deep understanding of their anguish and difficulties. Therefore, whenever this time, I always leave my laid-off sisters behind, chat with them, cook for them, and then teach each sister knitting skills without reservation. A laid-off girl from Northeast China came to my home. I received her warmly and taught her all the skills, so that she could master the knitting skills smoothly and create conditions for re-employment as soon as possible.

Since I taught my laid-off sisters to tie knots, there have been phone calls at home. From time to time, people ask me how to tie this knot and that knot. I always answer their questions patiently. I hope everyone can finish all kinds of productions independently and realize re-employment. So far, many sisters have kept in touch with me by hotline.

Over the past few years, I have formed a deep affection with "Chinese knot", which has become a part of my life and the main source of family income. After learning about my situation, the Beijing Women's Federation specially invited me to give a training course on Chinese knots to laid-off women workers, and all districts and counties in the city also invited me to train laid-off workers. Every time I am serious, I try my best to make every student learn this skill. Last year alone, I trained more than 1000 laid-off women workers.

But with more and more people making Chinese knots, it is becoming more and more difficult to increase their income. Last year, my wife was laid off, and my son went to middle school this year. I must find a new job.

In April this year, I learned that the re-employment service center of Beinei Group was recruiting a "banquet wife" for the society, and I did not hesitate to sign up. "Banquet wife" refers to "hourly workers" who provide banquet services for hotels and restaurants, and the recruitment target is laid-off women workers. After three rigorous interviews, I was lucky enough to be the "banquet lady" of China World Hotel.

The first time I went to China World Hotel to be a "wife banquet", I was arranged to do some simple buffet service. At first, I was worried about making mistakes. My hands were full of sweat and my heart was always hanging. Now, I'm not nervous anymore. I know all the working procedures in my heart. Whether it's setting the table, top meal, flipping the table or top meeting, I have arranged it very well. I can handle Chinese food, western food, set meal or buffet.

My biggest wish now is to renew my social insurance relationship for two years and receive a monthly pension in the future. If the income of "Chinese knot" is really too little in the future, find a part-time job outside the "banquet", or open a small domestic service company to help people take care of their children and cook, so that the laid-off life can be enriched, and the problem of providing for the aged can finally be solved.

Although I work very hard now and I don't earn much every month, I never complain that I am too tired and have too little money, but I can earn a little. People can't wait to live, relying on government help and social relief. There is no pie in the sky, you have to find a way by yourself. A happy life is created by one's own labor. Only by struggling can we create our own happy life.
