Shanxi Engineering Vocational College is a demonstration college of deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform of the Ministry of Education, a national demonstration vocational college, a pilot unit of modern apprenticeship system of the Ministry of Education, a national backbone vocational college, and a project construction unit of high-quality vocational colleges in Shanxi Province. The school is a public full-time college located in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, which was formed by the merger of Shanxi Engineering Vocational and Technical College and Shanxi Coal Vocational and Technical College. In 2020, Shanxi Yanbei Coal Industry School and Shanxi Coal Vocational Secondary School merged into Shanxi Engineering Vocational College.

The predecessor of Shanxi Coal Vocational and Technical College can be traced back to Shanxi Mining School, which was founded in 1952. The predecessor of Shanxi Engineering Vocational College can be traced back to Shanxi Metallurgical Industry School, which was founded in 1952.

The school building has a total construction area of about 403,000 square meters, including three campuses, namely Longtan, Tang Huai and Xutan, with a total area of 895 mu, 765 faculty members and 46 higher vocational colleges enrolling students.
