Guangfu Road was originally a part of the river. The small river was called "City River" in the Southern Song Dynasty because it was located in the downtown area. The General Plan of Cheng Xiang in Zhejiang, which was drawn during Guangxu period, recorded the urban rivers. In 1930s and 1940s, Chenghe River was gradually filled up and disappeared due to river siltation, leaving only the names of Guangfu Road and other places, and the ancient bridge on the river was abandoned and demolished.
