Historical Origin Before the transformation of Tangshan Nanhu City Central Ecological Park, Kailuan was a coal mining subsidence area formed after 130 years of mining. Mountains of garbage, sewage, weeds and inaccessible urban scars and ruins have seriously affected the environment and overall image of the city, restricted the development of the city, affected the work and life of citizens, and wasted a lot of land resources.

To create leisure and entertainment places for citizens, we will focus on building a nearby sinking area of more than 3 million square meters (namely Nanhu Park), and complete the construction of simple peripheral ring roads, hilltop gardens, rockery slope protection extensions, lake connections, cruise ship docks and racecourses. Before it was treated, the Peak Garden was a garbage mountain with domestic garbage. It was covered with high-quality earthwork and piled with stones, which made it difficult to think of its previous situation, plus carpet lawns and various places on the mountain. The completion of Nanhu Park provides a good place for tourists to play, thus becoming a model for the sustainable development of natural resources.

Location of Attractions: Tangshan Nanhu Park is located in the south of Tangshan City, only 670 meters away from the city center, with an area of 28 square kilometers. Won the first "Habitat Environment Award" in Hebei Province and the "China Habitat Environment Model Award" in 2002. The purpose and significance of planning and construction is to make full use of the coal mining subsidence area centered on Nanhu Central Ecological Park, realize the historic transformation from waste to treasure, from inferior to superior, from decadent to magical, from "dark black" to "blue", and promote the development and utilization of surrounding areas, so as to improve living conditions, improve urban taste, solve land bottlenecks and solve urban construction funds.

Development Prospects In order to effectively improve the urban ecological environment and realize the strategy of sustainable development, 1996, the municipal party committee and the municipal government listed the comprehensive treatment project of the southern coal mining subsidence area as a practical project of the municipal government, set up the "Southern Coal Mining Subsidence Area Greening Project Construction Headquarters" headed by the municipal leaders, and put forward the strategic policy of "turning disadvantages into advantages and turning decay into magic". After many investigations and demonstrations, the control scheme and overall planning design have been formulated: make full use of existing conditions, adjust measures to local conditions, give priority to green plants, create a variety of artificial plant communities adapted to different regions, regions and geological conditions, and thoroughly improve the ecological environment of the subsidence area with the ecological functions of plants. After several years of management and transformation, the desolate wilderness, cemetery, sewage ditch and garbage dump have all been covered with green coats, becoming a forest park with a unique landscape of leisure, entertainment and education with green trees, green lawns and clear lakes.

At the end of 2006, Tangshan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government made a decision to speed up the construction of coal mining subsidence areas in the south. At the beginning of 2007, three authoritative organizations, including Tangshan Branch of China Coal Science Research Institute, were organized to carry out geological investigation and scientific demonstration in this area, which solved many problems such as preventing water leakage and broke the misunderstanding and imprisonment that the coal mining subsidence area could not be developed and utilized. Subsequently, four top planning and design companies, Tsinghua Planning and Design Institute, China Planning and Design Institute, German Yixia Planning and Design Group and American Longan Company, gathered in Tangshan to comprehensively determine the construction scheme of Nanhu City Central Ecological Park.

On March 1 2008, as the key project of Tangshan city construction, the construction of Nanhu city central ecological park was officially started, and large-scale tree planting project, garbage closing mountain greening project, landscape road construction project, park landscape lighting project and lake expansion and water diversion project to ensure the stability and continuity of ecosystem were implemented. Tens of thousands of builders carried forward the spirit of "white plus black", "five plus two" and "three shifts of key projects". It only took 14 months to build the Nanhu Central Ecological Park, with a water area of 1 1.5 square kilometers and a green area of 16 square kilometers.

After construction, Nanhu City Central Ecological Park has 9 lakes such as Taohuatan and Longquan Bay, 5 islands such as Yunfeng Island and Xiangming Island, and more than 20 scenic spots such as Sakura Avenue, Phoenix Terrace and Music Fountain.

On May 1 day, 2009, Nanhu City Central Ecological Park was officially opened to the public. More than 5 million tourists have personally experienced the ecological, magical and fun beauty of South Lake with green trees, blue sky and clear water, birds and flowers. Ambassadors and environmental experts from Israel, Singapore, Italy and other countries spoke highly of the huge ecological benefits of South Lake.

The judging panel unanimously agreed to approve the Special Plan for the Establishment of National AAAAA-level Tourist Attractions by Nanhu Lake in Tangshan. After the planning results are confirmed, the Nanhu Management Committee will speed up the upgrading and transformation of the scenic spot according to the plan, and strive to build the scenic spot into a national 5A-level scenic spot as soon as possible.
