Our institute has long been engaged in the research, development and application of basic organic raw materials, secondary processing of organic raw materials, synthesis of polymer materials and related catalysts and catalytic materials, and is committed to the chemical utilization of petrochemical olefins and aromatics; At the same time, it is also the supporting unit of the National Engineering Research Center for Basic Organic Raw Materials and the Petrochemical Sub-technical Committee of the National Chemical Standardization Technical Committee. After pioneering and hard struggle of several generations of scientific and technological personnel, aiming at the advanced level of contemporary international petrochemical technology, a series of production processes and catalytic technologies for organic chemical raw materials have been developed, which have contributed to the development of three major synthetic materials in China and achieved a large number of industrialization results. Such as propylene ammoxidation to acrylonitrile, toluene disproportionation to xylene, dilute ethylene to ethylbenzene, ethylbenzene dehydrogenation to styrene and other catalysts and complete sets of technologies have reached the international leading or advanced level; Significant achievements have also been made in the development of catalytic technologies such as vinyl acetate, PTA, hydrogenation of pyrolysis gasoline, synthesis of methyl tert-butyl ether by catalytic distillation, and synthesis of ethylbenzene and cumene by molecular sieve alkylation.

In recent years, our institute has established extensive academic exchanges and cooperation with famous enterprises and research institutions in many overseas countries and regions, actively participated in international technology competition, and strived to expand the international technology market. The 870,000-ton/year toluene disproportionation process package with independent intellectual property rights was completed and put into production overseas.

When planning the future development, our institute has determined the development strategy of "one goal, two bases, three teams and four first-class", developed the production technology of organic raw materials closely around the chemical technology platform of China Petrochemical Company, and carried out large-scale, whole-process and high-performance research on aromatic hydrocarbons and their derivatives, ethylene and its derivatives, propylene and its derivatives, C4/C5 and its derivatives, and C 1 chemical production technology.
