What kind of organization is the Nature Foundation?

WWF is the world's largest and most experienced independent non-governmental environmental protection organization. It has 5.2 million supporters worldwide and a network active in more than 100 countries. Since its establishment in 1961, WWF has initiated or completed approximately 12,000 environmental projects in 153 countries on 6 continents. WWF works in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa through a global network of 27 national members, 21 program offices and 5 affiliated member organizations. An important figure in the founding stage of WWF was the famous British biologist Julian Huxley. He was the first Director-General of UNESCO and helped establish the World Conservation Union, a nature conservation organization focused on scientific research.

In 1960, Huxley traveled to East Africa to serve as a consultant to UNESCO on wildlife conservation activities in the region. After returning to London, Huxley published three articles in the Observer newspaper to warn the British public. He pointed out in the article that if humans destroy animal habitats and hunt wild animals at such a rate, the wild species in the area will be wiped out within 20 years. Huxley's article immediately caused a sensation in Britain, and the public began to realize that nature conservation was a serious problem. Huxley received many letters from the public, including a businessman named Victor Stolland. In his letter, he pointed out that an international organization could be created to raise funds for protecting nature, but Stolan pointed out that his status was not suitable for starting such an organization himself. Huxley then contacted ornithologist Max Nicholson, director general of the British Nature Conservation Organization.

In 1961, Nicholson convened a group of scientists and public relations experts, all of whom agreed to establish the foundation suggested by Storen. Since the newly established foundation plans to work hand in hand with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, which had previously moved its headquarters to Morges, a small town on the north shore of Lake Geneva, Switzerland, they decided to set up the foundation's headquarters here. The International Union for Conservation of Nature welcomes it. The cooperation agreement between the two parties stated: "We will work together to arouse public awareness and make the world realize the importance of protecting nature." The World Wildlife Fund was officially established as a charity on September 11, 1961. Group registration. WWF's first national program was established in the United Kingdom on November 23, 1961, with the Duke of Edinburgh as chairman.
