The Fine Arts Department of Xiamen University was founded in 1984. The Department of Fine Arts has three undergraduate majors of art design, painting and fine arts, and seven disciplines of environmental art design, visual communication design, sculpture, comprehensive materials and multimedia, oil painting, Chinese painting and art management. It mainly trains creative talents in art design and painting, as well as art teachers.

Art design major mainly cultivates creative talents of art design major. Among them: oil painting mainly offers sketch, oil painting, comprehensive materials, art introduction, art history, teaching method (art major) and other courses; Chinese painting offers sketch, landscape painting, figure painting, flower-and-bird painting, ink painting, art introduction, art history, teaching method (art major) and other courses. In 2009, the direction of art management (fine arts) was specially increased.
