Currently, there are only 0.53 pediatricians per 1,000 children in my country. According to the United States standard of 1.46 physicians per 1,000 children, the shortage of pediatricians in my country is at least 200,000. Sun Kun, deputy chairman of the Pediatric Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and president of the Pediatric Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, pointed out that after the "universal two-child policy" is liberalized, it is predicted that the number of children in my country will reach 292 million in 2020; if we want to achieve "0.69 pediatricians per thousand "children" target, the shortage of pediatricians in China is 86,042.

Accounting for 9.84% of the country’s total outpatient and emergency visits; nearly 21.62 million people were discharged, accounting for 10.3% of the total number of discharges from medical institutions. The average daily number of outpatient visits handled by pediatricians in my country's medical institutions is about 17, which is 2.4 times the workload of other doctors in medical institutions; the average number of discharges handled by pediatricians per year is nearly 200, which is 2.6 times that of other doctors. As of January 2016, the recruitment demand for pediatricians has increased by 18% year-on-year, with "Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou" increasing by 19%, 23% and 18% year-on-year respectively. Second-tier major regions saw a year-on-year increase of 22%.
