I am a son-in-law from Lanzhou. I have been going to Lanzhou every year since I first met my wife in college. It can be said that I like this city very much, but at the same time I am worried about its relatively lagging development.

It was summer when I first came to Lanzhou. I flew from the sweltering south to Lanzhou and liked the dryness as soon as I got off the plane. When in Lanzhou, beef noodles are a must-eat. I have eaten "Lanzhou Ramen" in many places before. My father-in-law and mother-in-law like me very much and take me to eat almost all the mainstream and niche beef noodle restaurants in Lanzhou. Lanzhou’s terrain is very special, it is long and narrow. The city's main buildings are along the Yellow River. It makes people feel the coolness of Northwest people all the time. I ordered a large set of mutton skewers and drank Huanghe beer with a few friends. It was really fun. Every time I go to Lanzhou, my wife tries her best to take me to interesting places, but the supermarket seems to be the most visited. I remember there was a Kuniyoshi Parkson in the city center. At first I thought it was an international Parkson that focused on luxury goods, but I found out that it was a local Parkson that focused on people-friendly lines. Slowly, I discovered that things in major shopping malls in Lanzhou are not cheap at all, and the prices are really high.

I was born and raised in the south. I am used to seeing the green mountains and green waters of Sichuan. I have settled in the hinterland of the Chengdu Plain for a long time. There is heating in every room, and the air is clean and refreshing without any feeling of humidity. The plateau is rich in vegetables and fruits, there are many varieties of pasta, and the urban construction is unique. The soil and water support the people, and they are happy to be in Sichuan.

Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province, is an important industrial base and comprehensive transportation hub in northwest China, and one of the important central cities in the western region. It is an important town on the ancient Silk Road. As early as 5,000 years ago, humans were thriving here. Later I learned that it is not that there are few taxis in Lanzhou, but that they are all jammed. If you can't run on the road, the key is not to use Didi...

2. Life

Shopping malls: mainly RT-Mart and Wanda

Bustling center : Mainly concentrated in Chengguan District (the seat of the provincial government is also called the Old City), Xiguan Cross and Dongfanghong Square are considered the center of Lanzhou.

3. Housing prices

As a northwest city, it is relatively remote in terms of geographical location. As I slowly got used to this city, I found that it had changed, I discovered its beautiful. The buses are not so shabby. The Lanzhou Municipal Government has made great efforts to introduce thousands of pure electric buses. As far as I know, routes 117, 58 and other routes have all been replaced with new ones. The electronic station LED display in the middle clearly shows the next stop. The destination has made it convenient for many people who come to Lanzhou to work or travel. The roads have also changed. Lanzhou is building a subway in full swing. With a sense of urgency, Lanzhou is moving towards the first-tier cities. Although there is still a gap, it is working hard. Now Lanzhou has Mobike, ofo, Hellobike (recently introduced as of March 22, 2018), etc., which greatly alleviates traffic pressure. There are also many places to choose from for dining, such as the 8th floor of Guofang Department Store, the 4th floor of Wanda, the 4th floor of Hualian, etc., as well as the farmhouses in Yuzhong, etc. Although housing prices have not dropped, they are still relatively stable overall, and my employer provides room allocations (so I’m not too worried for the time being).

I am from Tianshui, Gansu Province. I have been to Lanzhou many times when I was a student, and I have witnessed with my own eyes the development of Lanzhou in recent years.

The first time I went to Lanzhou was in my sophomore year of high school to participate in a competition. Transportation was not very developed at that time, so we took a car, a seven-hour drive, and it was bumpy all the way. I set off in the morning and finally arrived in the afternoon. Desolation and gloom were my first impressions of Lanzhou. The sky was gray, the air was full of the smell of earth, and the buildings seemed to be from the last century. It feels far less good than Tianshui.

After finishing the college entrance examination, my wife went to school in Lanzhou, while I went to a southern city far away from home, so Lanzhou and I began to have some subtle connection.

During every short vacation during college, most of the time was spent in Lanzhou, Ma Ta Fei Yan at the train station, Ma Youbu beef noodles on Yongchang Road, Baita Mountain on Beibinhe Road, Wuquan Mountain at the northern foot of Mulan Mountain... All memories about Lanzhou begin from these places. Now every time I pass by Lanzhou when I go home, I will be surprised by the changes in Lanzhou. As an important town in the northwest, I am optimistic about the future of Lanzhou.

Due to my work relationship, I have been working in Lanzhou for more than five years since 2012. From all aspects, I feel that Lanzhou is really not that good! From the perspective of urban planning, design and construction, municipal road transportation facilities, urban greening (park roads) coverage is low, there are few public leisure and entertainment venues for citizens, and the overall strength is not very good! As a provincial capital city, its development is slow and backward, giving people the impression that it is dirty, messy and blocked (especially Qilihe District)!
