What kind of city is Lanzhou?

I am a son-in-law from Lanzhou. I have been going to Lanzhou every year since I first met my wife in college. It can be said that I like this city very much, but at the same time I am worried about its relatively lagging development.

It was summer when I first came to Lanzhou. I flew from the sweltering south to Lanzhou and liked the dryness as soon as I got off the plane. Later, I was very surprised that in the summer in Lanzhou, I could sleep without turning on the air conditioner. A good place to escape the summer heat, this is Lanzhou in my eyes!

When in Lanzhou, beef noodles are a must-eat. I have eaten "Lanzhou Ramen" in many places before. When I arrived in Lanzhou, I realized that the locals didn't call it this kind of noodles and only called it "Beef Noodles". My father-in-law and mother-in-law like me very much and take me to eat almost all the mainstream and niche beef noodle restaurants in Lanzhou. Knowing that I love meat, they almost order a pound of beef to add to my noodles every time. A bowl of beef noodles that makes you want to drink the soup. This is Lanzhou in my eyes!

Lanzhou’s terrain is very special, it is long and narrow. The city's main buildings are along the Yellow River. There is a local Yellow River beer, and there are "mass graves" that bloom all over the place at night - a market similar to an Oktoberfest. It makes people feel the coolness of Northwest people all the time. I ordered a large set of mutton skewers and drank Huanghe beer with a few friends. It was really fun. Sipping skewers and drinking beer, this is Lanzhou in my eyes!

Every time I go to Lanzhou, my wife tries her best to take me to interesting places, but the supermarket seems to be the most visited. I remember there was a Kuniyoshi Parkson in the city center. At first I thought it was an international Parkson that focused on luxury goods, but I found out that it was a local Parkson that focused on people-friendly lines. Slowly, I discovered that things in major shopping malls in Lanzhou are not cheap at all, and the prices are really high.

The buses in Lanzhou drive very casually, and one time they actually changed the route while driving;

The people in Lanzhou are very enthusiastic, although I can’t speak a single authentic Lanzhou dialect. I don’t understand;

Lanzhou’s parks don’t seem to have much to offer, and the amusement park in Wuquan Mountain feels like it’s equipment from the last century;

Lanzhou’s roasted whole lamb is so delicious , it’s just a waste that I usually can’t finish one;

Lanzhou’s apricot peel water is delicious, but I don’t know why it’s sold out every time I ask for it;

There is another kind in Lanzhou The wine is called Jiuliangye. At first I thought it was a copycat of Wuliangye, but it turns out it is a local famous wine, and the key is very delicious;

Lanzhou’s subway has been under construction for many years, and the traffic jams make me cry, and there are also limited restrictions. No.;

Lanzhou Airport is so far away from the city that it makes me feel like I am leaving Gansu Province when I go to the airport;

Lanzhou’s air quality has become much better in recent years, at least better than Beijing;

Girls in Lanzhou have very good skin, and my wife is the best proof!

Generally speaking, Lanzhou is a very good place, but its economic development and urban construction are relatively lagging behind. Sometimes walking on the streets of Lanzhou can give you a sense of era illusion.

However, I really like Lanzhou. At least I am grateful to that land for raising my child and her mother!

I was born and raised in the south. I am used to seeing the green mountains and green waters of Sichuan. I have settled in the hinterland of the Chengdu Plain for a long time. I feel good about myself, a land of abundance. Due to my children, I have stayed in Lanzhou many times in recent years, slowly getting to know the scenery of the northwest and experiencing its unique advantages. 1: Lanzhou is a city worth living in in summer. The whole summer is hot for only 15 days at most. It doesn’t feel stuffy and it’s cool in the morning and evening. There are very few pesky mosquitoes. Once they come, they don't want to leave, and it's not easy for children to stay with them for a long time. The coldest temperature in winter is 0 to 5 degrees Celsius in Sichuan. There is heating in every room, and the air is clean and refreshing without any feeling of humidity. The plateau is rich in vegetables and fruits, there are many varieties of pasta, and the urban construction is unique. The soil and water support the people, and they are happy to be in Sichuan.

Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province, is an important industrial base and comprehensive transportation hub in northwest China, and one of the important central cities in the western region. It is an important town on the ancient Silk Road. As early as 5,000 years ago, humans were thriving here. The county government was established in the Western Han Dynasty and was called Jincheng, which means "Jincheng Tangchi". In the early Sui Dynasty, the Lanzhou General Administration Office was renamed Lanzhou.

I visited Lanzhou in June. Lanzhou left a very good impression on me. The city is not very fast and there are quite a lot of delicious food. I highly recommend the beef noodles and hand-caught mutton. In short, there are too many delicious foods to introduce. If you want to experience it, it’s best to go there in person. It’s great to climb the Baita Park and break a sweat. I love Lanzhou and I will go there if I have the chance.

I am a A native of Shanxi, he worked at Taiyuan University for four years and three years before coming to work at a CDC in Lanzhou on July 15, 2016.

Mainly divided into 3 parts:

Part 1: The past

When I first arrived in Lanzhou, the song "Sad Pacific" made me want to ride the wind back home feeling.

1. Travel

Public transportation: Very poor. There is no electronic stop sign and no bilingual stop sign. As the saying goes, there is no harm without comparison. At this moment, I miss my trip to Taiyuan very much. 849 women’s hotline.

Roads: Due to the awkward situation of Lanzhou being surrounded by two mountains and a river, the roads in Lanzhou are particularly narrow and bumpy, especially in Chengguan District.

Taxi: It is no exaggeration to say that it is the most difficult city to take a taxi in the world. I waited for half an hour in one place but could not get a taxi. Later I learned that it is not that there are few taxis in Lanzhou, but that they are all jammed. If you can't run on the road, the key is not to use Didi...

2. Life

Shopping malls: mainly RT-Mart and Wanda

Bustling center : Mainly concentrated in Chengguan District (the seat of the provincial government is also called the Old City), Xiguan Cross and Dongfanghong Square are considered the center of Lanzhou.

Eat: The same beef noodles and barbecue.

3. Housing prices

As a northwest city, it is relatively remote in terms of geographical location. However, the housing prices here are not proportional to its geographical location, with an average of 11,000/square meter. Of course, This refers to Chengguan District. But Qilihe and Anning are not much different from this. Xigu and Yuzhong will be much cheaper.

Part 2: Now (feeling independent and ascending to immortality)

As I slowly got used to this city, I found that it had changed, I discovered its beautiful. The buses are not so shabby. The Lanzhou Municipal Government has made great efforts to introduce thousands of pure electric buses. As far as I know, routes 117, 58 and other routes have all been replaced with new ones. The electronic station LED display in the middle clearly shows the next stop. The destination has made it convenient for many people who come to Lanzhou to work or travel. The roads have also changed. Lanzhou is building a subway in full swing. With a sense of urgency, Lanzhou is moving towards the first-tier cities. Although there is still a gap, it is working hard. Now Lanzhou has Mobike, ofo, Hellobike (recently introduced as of March 22, 2018), etc., which greatly alleviates traffic pressure. There are also many places to choose from for dining, such as the 8th floor of Guofang Department Store, the 4th floor of Wanda, the 4th floor of Hualian, etc., as well as the farmhouses in Yuzhong, etc. Although housing prices have not dropped, they are still relatively stable overall, and my employer provides room allocations (so I’m not too worried for the time being).

1. Travel

You can go to Wuquan Mountain, Baita Mountain, Mother Statue, Zhongshan Bridge, Yellow River Cableway, Waterwheel Expo Park, Gansu Provincial Museum (Qili River), Gansu Provincial Science and Technology Museum (Tranquility), etc.

2. Folk customs

The people in Lanzhou are relatively simple. There are ethnic minorities but not many. Everyone can safely integrate together

3. Go to school

Lanzhou University (985, 211, Double First-Class) and Northwest Normal University are relatively famous, at least in the northwest region

Part Three : The future (come back from hundreds of cities to see Lanzhou, which has been the leader for hundreds of years)

I hope that Greater Lanzhou can give full play to its geographical advantages of the Silk Road and the Hexi Corridor in the next time, and use Lanzhou to As a center, it radiates to the entire northwest region, drives the development of the northwest region, and becomes a city with the most happiness and mission. As the current economic center of the country is still in the southeast, it is far away from the distant northwest.

Except for Xi'an, a bright spot or Internet celebrity city, most of the northwest is unknown.

The older generation of Lanzhou people all remember the glory of Lanzhou, the former Lanzhou Military Region garrison, the starting point of the Longhai Railway, the large base for the third-line construction... Countless thoughts are gone with the rolling water of the Yellow River. Leaving a lonely Lanzhou city empty. Where did Lanzhou, which ranked 25th or 6th in the 1980s, go? What was lost was the withdrawal of the Lanzhou Military Region and the helplessness of Lanzhou University students after they flew southeast.

How can you remind everyone of Lanzhou? It’s not just a place name symbol! If it’s still like yesterday, your status will be even more embarrassing. Whether it is second-tier Lanzhou or third-tier Lanzhou, when will its former glory return?

To tell what kind of city Lanzhou is, we have to look at it from several aspects. In terms of climatic conditions, Lanzhou is a very special city. A city suitable for people to live in, the winter will not be too cold, there will be cold wind but not wet and cold, the air will be very fresh after a heavy snowfall, the summer will not be too hot, even in the dog days, the high temperature will not last more than 5 days, there must be a The cool and heavy rain refreshes the heart and lungs, and the spring and autumn are even more refreshing and pleasant. People are in a cheerful mood. In terms of food, Lanzhou is also a city of gourmet food. The fruits are fragrant all year round, and there are all kinds of pasta, beef, mutton, barbecue, stuffed skin and gray beans. Wait, the only thing I worry about is that my stomach is limited and I can’t finish all the delicious food. From other aspects, the overall income of residents is not high, housing prices are generally not low, transportation is basically okay, and beer stalls are full.

I am from Tianshui, Gansu Province. I have been to Lanzhou many times when I was a student, and I have witnessed with my own eyes the development of Lanzhou in recent years.

The first time I went to Lanzhou was in my sophomore year of high school to participate in a competition. Transportation was not very developed at that time, so we took a car, a seven-hour drive, and it was bumpy all the way. I set off in the morning and finally arrived in the afternoon. Desolation and gloom were my first impressions of Lanzhou. The sky was gray, the air was full of the smell of earth, and the buildings seemed to be from the last century. It feels far less good than Tianshui.

After finishing the college entrance examination, my wife went to school in Lanzhou, while I went to a southern city far away from home, so Lanzhou and I began to have some subtle connection.

During every short vacation during college, most of the time was spent in Lanzhou, Ma Ta Fei Yan at the train station, Ma Youbu beef noodles on Yongchang Road, Baita Mountain on Beibinhe Road, Wuquan Mountain at the northern foot of Mulan Mountain... All memories about Lanzhou begin from these places. I still remember the rows of antique buildings and willows on Baita Mountain, and the People's Square on the top of Wuquan Mountain, with blue sky, white clouds and gentle breeze. People are like rainbows, and when you meet them, you will know they are there. Lanzhou has carried my entire youth.

From the green trains to the high-speed trains, from the foggy sky to the blue sky and white clouds. From the old buildings to the skyscrapers now, although Lanzhou's development is slow, you can feel that the changes are huge. Now every time I pass by Lanzhou when I go home, I will be surprised by the changes in Lanzhou. As an important town in the northwest, I am optimistic about the future of Lanzhou.

Due to my work relationship, I have been working in Lanzhou for more than five years since 2012. From all aspects, I feel that Lanzhou is really not that good! From the perspective of urban planning, design and construction, municipal road transportation facilities, urban greening (park roads) coverage is low, there are few public leisure and entertainment venues for citizens, and the overall strength is not very good! As a provincial capital city, its development is slow and backward, giving people the impression that it is dirty, messy and blocked (especially Qilihe District)!

Lanzhou, a sentimental western city, an important node on the Silk Road, was called the Golden City in ancient times! The ancients said: Water represents tolerance, and mountains represent heaviness. Lanzhou is a city of mountains and rivers with the Yellow River passing through the city and the two mountains in the north and south looking up at each other. There is tolerance here, and there is also heaviness!

Lanzhou, the young man is bold and the girl is free and easy. Miss Dong and Lanzhou Yan in Song Dongye’s lyrics are all descriptions of this city.

Come to Lanzhou, taste a bowl of unique beef noodles, take a leisurely walk along the Baili Yellow River, sit on an ancient sheepskin raft and listen to Yellow River ballads, go rafting on the Yellow River, and take a refreshing sip of Yellow River beer. You will definitely be able to Feel the taste of Lanzhou!

Lanzhou is red because it is known as the "Heart of the Land" and is located at the center of China's geographical map; Lanzhou is yellow because the Yellow River is the city's business card! Lanzhou is blue because the beautiful scenery of blue sky and white clouds has become a reality; Lanzhou is colorful because in the hearts of Lanzhou people, there is a colorful dream. They love it deeply. If you have the opportunity, I hope you can Come and taste Lanzhou, the landscape of Lanzhou welcomes you!
