In fact, Ma Ji once dabbled in commercial activities and served as a consultant of an enterprise. He didn't refuse Shang Yan. In the 1990s, an old friend invited him to perform in other places, but he couldn't make it due to physical reasons.
Although he didn't find other reasons against his disciples, Ma Ji was well aware of the brain drain of crosstalk talents. At last year's meeting of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Ma Ji sharply criticized the rap group for losing all the good traditions of attaching importance to personnel training.
Before his death, Ma Ji always wanted to run a crosstalk school to change the traditional teaching mode of oral instruction. Ma Ji often said to his disciples, "To be a man, we should abandon some old things and be literate. Don't let the outside world laugh at our lack of culture.
