What does the Internet of Things mean?

Power Internet of Things is the application of Internet of Things in smart grid, and it is the result of the development of information and communication technology to a certain stage. It will effectively integrate communication infrastructure resources and power system infrastructure resources, improve the informatization level of power system, improve the utilization efficiency of existing infrastructure of power system, and provide important technical support for power generation, transmission, substation, distribution and electricity consumption of power grid.

State Grid Corporation of China has set up an R&D organization specializing in the application of Internet of Things technology in power system, which is located in the power Internet of Things R&D and industrialization incubation base integrating R&D, testing, engineering, service, evaluation and verification, focusing on the core technology of Internet of Things, chip development, product and application system development, standard formulation and product evaluation, manufacturing of major information and communication equipment in smart grid, intelligent service and construction of perceived power center, etc. Since its establishment, it has successfully applied for a number of major national science and technology projects and consulting projects related to the Internet of Things.

After years of construction, the backbone network of power communication system has basically realized the automation and informatization of optical fiber transmission medium, network service bearing, operation monitoring and management.
