Yongjia as a county name began in 589 (the ninth year of Emperor Wendi). The word "Yongjia" means "water is long and beautiful".

Emperor Gaozu belonged to Fujian and Vietnam. From the third year of Huidi (BC 192) to the third year of Jianyuan (BC 138), it belonged to Dong 'ou, with its capital in Jiangbei, Oubei Town, Yongjia County.
