Metro Line 5 runs through the north and south of Dalian's core area, taking care of the commuting needs of residents in high-intensity residential areas such as Hutan New District, Ganjingzi District and Quanshui, and building a new urban pattern of "one bay and two banks". At the same time, it broke the separation between Shenyang-Dalian Railway and the city. Line 5 crosses Shenyang-Dalian Railway, speeding up the upgrading process of low-end businesses such as the big vegetable market and Shuangxing wholesale market on the north side of Dalian Railway Station, establishing the north-south traffic connection of the railway, and promoting the balanced development of the railways in the north and south cities.

The construction of Metro Line 5 provides a large-capacity and high-speed traffic corridor for the north-south direction of Dalian, which can effectively alleviate the ground traffic pressure. At the same time, the connection between Zhongshan District and Laoganjingzi District avoids bypassing Xianglu Reef and greatly shortens the travel distance and time between the two places. The new airport has been connected with the subway 1 line. Metro Line 5 is transferred in parallel with Metro 1 Line at Houguancun Station. By optimizing the wiring scheme, it can be connected with the subway 1 line. Metro 1 line is connected in series with high-speed railway station Airport, and Metro Line 5 is connected in series with the railway station and the new airport. Dalian's external transportation hub is fully covered by rail transit, realizing the organic connection between external traffic and urban internal traffic.
